So, I've unceremoniously ripped my XO1 (11spd) mech apart. Even if I could stomach the replacement cost (I can't), nowhere is holding any stock.
I've heard rumblings that you can use a 12spd SRAM derailleur on an otherwise 11spd SRAM setup. Can anyone confirm? E.g. a SRAM Eagle GX. (Added benefit: When I come to change the cassette I could upgrade the shifter to 12spd Eagle).
Secondly, if that is the case, surely I could even use a 12spd Shimano mech since I believe Shimano/SRAM 12speed were all inter-compatible?
Does anyone know?
I'm 99% sure 11 and 12 speed aren't interchangable, as the spacing betwixt the cogs is different. If they were interchangable, I'm sure there would be more than just rumblings, such is some peoples desire to bodge stuff to save a few quid...
After a quick Google it suggests a 12 speed mech with an 11 speed shifter will work fine on an 11 speed cassette.
Makes sense as the indexing is in the shifter.

Well yes but the overall lateral range of the derailleur is the same and the pull ratio is the same so...

I think that's correct but I wanted confirmation before I order the wrong thing.
I suppose the only other thing is whether the (top) jockey wheel path is significantly different since 12spd can accommodate up to a 50t (52t?) big ring and I'll only be using 42t. It seems like it's worth a punt. I'll report back if I manage it!
EDIT: GX seems safer although I'm about 90% sure Shimano 12spd should also work. I think I'd prefer Shimano over SRAM.
11 and 12 speed sram rear mechs pull exactly the same amount of cable so can be interchanged no problems.
Im currently running an XX1 eagle rear mech on a 10-50t garbaruk 11 speed cassette, works just fine. Have run the same with Gx on another bike too (11-46 in that instance).
Its also fairly easy to modify the 11 speed stuff to work with Exact actuation (road drop levers), you just swap over the plastic cable guide as this is all that governs the difference in pull ratio between xactuation (mtb) and exact actuation (road,cx).
I was browsing some components yesterday and apparently M9100 XTR is 11 and 12 speed compatible with the use of a removable chip in the shifter, so I imagine the cable pull should be the same for the shifter and the mech but that could also be a complete guess!
Have you tried Tweeks? Just ordered 11spd SRAM from them when most others didn't have any.
