Hi all,

Looking for some local knowledge please 🙂

Got a photo shoot lined up with my buddy Laurence CE ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/laurence-ce/) tomorrow.

The aim of the shoot is to capture the more natural side of mountain-biking (as opposed to trail centres), so we're talking big "epic" landscapes, with some singletrack winding it's way along.

What we're really looking for is a trail, doesn't have to be amazingly fun or whatever, which is overlooked by Snowdon, will not be in shadow in the morning, and ideally by a lake or something.

We don't mind an hour or two hike in (Laurence will be on foot), but obviously the closer to a road/place we can rough camp, the better.

So, any thoughts on possible locations? Any pics of places you might think would be suitable would be great 🙂

Ta, Duane 🙂

Hi Duane
One of my favorite natural trials in North wales is the Snowdon Epic, the route makes a wide circle around snowdon taking in several high level passes and tracks, the section of this route that goes up and over a coll from snowdon ranger has some big views but I'd have to get my maps out to figure if there was a lake in view and sun behind you looking at snowdon. I'll have a look at my tracks and routes when I get home tonight follow up, in the meantine I'm sure someone else will post.

Hmmm.

Try the slate quarry on the other side of the valley:
Go through Deiniolen, carry on through Dinorwic and keep going till you get to a large turning circle.
Go through the gate on the far side of the turning circle.
Carry on into the quarry.
Just before the first large disused building on the left is a gate.
Climb over this to access a zig zag path leading you to some amazing views of Snowdon and Llynn Padarn.

If you go back to the main path, you'll see a viewing platform to your right, just past the building mentioned earlier, but on the other side overlooking the valley.
Try following the main quarry track through the narrow gap for some more great views.
Once in the main part of the quarry, please try and stick to the main path or the Elidir Fawr side of the quarry at least.
Access is becoming an issue and there are now regular, but friendly, security patrols.

Padarn Country Park, just above the old hospital is another option, but it's mega cheeky.

You could also try the access road to the quarry from Machlyn Mawr, or for great views over to Anglesey try the bridleway that skirts the northern side of Moel Y Ci.

The bottom bit of the Telegraph Valley path might also be ok.
