about to build some wheels for the summer and was looking into different nipple lengths.
would longer nipples build a stiffer wheel?
cheers
No
cheers cynic-al =]
just assumed a longer niple would require a shorter spoke inturn building a slighly stiffer wheel
I suppose you may be right but a few mm is not going to make any significant difference.
What you need are some Scania wheel nuts.
CRC seem to supply 14mm nipples with all their spokes but the DT swiss calculator defaults to 12mm.
Not sure other than a bit of extra weight what the relative advantages/disadvantages are though.
Longer nipples are for deep section rims, have poorer availability and greater weight.
just slightly longer than thumb and forefinger.....? 🙂
Yep 12mm is the 'standard' XM819s require 16mms, Sapim CX-Rays come with 14mm.
No real reason to use longer ones frankly.
