After 5 years and many thousands of commuter miles my trusty Boardman racing bike is due some TLC. I’m embarrassed to say I’ve hardly touched it during this time period - all my money and time has been spent on my mountain bike fleet. This in itself is a testament to the outstanding quality and value for money you get from Boardman.
I could do with some advice though – while I have much experience of building / servicing mountain bikes I have none with road bikes.
I know as a bare minimum I need a new cassette, chain, chainrings and BB. Possibly new chainset if this works out to be more cost effective.
I don’t know what all the existing components are but the bike is a 2008 bottom of the range Boardman racer (comp or sport I think) – Im not interested in upgrading particularly as I have been more than happy with the level of functionality of the existing components (whatever these are??)
Does anyone have any tips on what to buy before I start pressing buttons randomly on CRC??
Cheers
How much did you pay for the bike? You are probably looking at nearly a couple of hundred quid if you pay a shop including labour. You'll no doubt need brake pads, cables inner and outer, wheel bearings and possibly a headset. It will soon rack up. AS for what models, there is a huge range of models from Campag, Shimano and SRAM.It would take forever to go through it. That is where your local bike shop comes in. You may have to pay labour to get it fixed but they will guide you through the ranges and hopefully fit equivalent to what you have or something to suit your budget.
