Hello everyone, I'm new on the forum and have joined because I've heard it's the best resource in the UK to gain help and information from cyclists. Our boys cycle, one mainly on roads and another off road across the Surrey Hills, but it's my turn to sign up to this highly regarded forum to ask for help regarding Leith Hill Road nr. Dorking, Surrey.

It might be an unusual topic of conversation on the forum, but my request is regarding a matter of prevention of future deaths on this road and could help all road users including cyclists.

Does anyone have any photos or footage of Leith Hill Road, (approx between Leith HIll Place and Starveall Corner Car Park) any time from 07/08/15 - 31/07/16 please? It is to help clarify some road signs that were missing or turned round the wrong way.

Please message me if you think you might have photos or footage between these dates,  and the nearer to 07/08/15 the better, but all pictures would help.

We're happy to trawl through films and photos of this section of road that you think might fit within this timescale!

Or if you know the route fairly well and ride it often with a head camera on, I can then explain what/where is needed so that we can narrow down your footage.

I've spoken to Chipps, the Editor of Singletrack and he agreed that it would be okay to post my request on the Singletrack forum with the widest reach to cyclists in the UK.  I'm hoping this works because otherwise the next stage will be for us to go out wearing 'sandwich boards' seeking help!

Many thanks

Strictly, Leith Hill Place is on Leith Hill Lane which becomes Leith Hill Road at the junction at the top but that's a moot point.

Ride London was on the last day of your request, should have thousands of people as that was on the route, unless it was the year it rained and they took LH out? Tried some of the road forums?

Hi, Thanks for your reply.

The part I need of Leith Hill Road is north from the junction with Tanhurst Lane, but it seemed easier to describe the area approximately by using Leith Hill Place and Starveall Corner car park or Leith Hill Climb so that cyclists might be able to find the segment.

I have footage of both 2015 and 2016 Ride London but need to find footage between the two, and as close to 7th August 2015 as possible.

So far I have tried Cycling UK Forum and they suggested trying Singletrack.

Might you have any ideas for a popular road cycling forum?

Many thanks

Perhaps a few more details might help?

Try emailing Kingston Wheelers CC (is it part of our hill climb tt course?) or Twickenham CC to see if they’ll ask around their members but they might want some details as to what you’re actually up to.

2014 was the rained off year, 2015 was the year a chap sadly died on Leith Hill, 2016 was fine up Leith Hill (I was there for the latter two)

From the first post I've a sneaky but sad suspicion the request and death are related!

Did you undertake any training on that route between the 2015 and 2016 Ride London events?

My query is about the signs, but it is not related to the cyclist who sadly died during Ride London

Road.cc

also worth seeing if cycling weekly  http://www.cyclingweekly.com/ might run an appeal, but suspect you might need a bit more info than you seem prepared to give at the moment.

Yeah the lack of info is concerning. One might ponder for instance that the request is in relation to trying to avoid some kind of motoring offence.

If Chipps is privey to more info than can be publicly shared perhaps a 'its all ok chaps' post may free up some info.

I don't have anything btw just pointing out what others may be thinking.

Sorry I hadn't realised the request would cause concern, it's fairly new to me. I have explained it to Chipps and he said for me to mention that, so I had hoped that if someone thought they might have some pictures on those dates they might respond and then I could have had a conversation with them to explain further by email/ PM .

Thanks to all the suggestions on here and from a couple of our cycling friends who've messaged today, that's much appreciated.

Many thanks

Not checked, but Google Street View on desktop allows you to look at previous years, though depends when the camera can went up there. There are YouTube videos of people doing the route for Ride London (again not looked). I've also got one I did in my car for a friend who wanted to see what it looked like (I couldn't be bothered to ride it). Though that was only a few months back.

Looks like last time Google went up there was July 2015. Some parts can pick 2008 or 2009 for comparison.
