I'm moving to Brisbane in the summer and deciding what to do about bike.
Currently I own an 09 Orange Alpine which has been the perfect bike as I live in the Lakes.
Something tells me the Alpine might be overkill for the riding I'll be doing in and around Brisbane, you may know otherwise???
I'm thinking of getting a Cotic BFE frame and switching bits over and dropping the 36's to 140mm and taking it over with me.
Anyone got any exeprience of mountain biking in Brisbane and the surrounding area?
What do people think will be the right bike to take? Keep thre Alpine? Get the BFE? Something else???
Cheers

Plenty trails to ride. Most of the bikes I see on the trails there are XC 50/50 full sus and hardtail, but there's probably a downhill scene somewhere. Some good climbs, MT Nebo and Mt Glorious.
Consider selling your bike and buying over there, there's plenty really good bike shops in Brisbane and that gets you an in with the local scene.
Here's a pic of Bunya Forest (sorry about the weird bike 🙂 )

and another with a proper bike

Having moved to 4 different countries in my time I'd strongly recommend you take whatever bike you've got now (so you can at least ride around on something when you get there for a month or two) and wait and see what the locals ride...
Unless you know what the trails are like already, who you're gonna ride with, what type of terrain there is, you may waste your money buying something that you soon find inappropriate.
I've changed my bikes with every new place/country I lived in... California, Switzerland, Scotland, Germany...
I stayed with family in Ipswich a few years ago. Looked like loads of natural stuff, but fairly flat. Ideal for larger wheels & a rigid fork. I'd be in my element over there. 🙁
100% loved Brisbane. Broke my heart to come home. 🙁
Hi,
I'm a Brisbane local, originally from lancs yorks border. Think Calderdale lee quarry etc.
Riding here is very CX based, a soul would be better the bfe and Solaris better than both!
Brisbane has a mass of good riding just not techy stuff, the Alpine is def overkill however there is a bit of a DH scene not too far away where the Alpine would be ideal.
If you want any info or maybe a group to ride with when you get here drop me an email
And dont forget, strip your bike right down and give it a thorough cleaning. Thats if you are taking it with you.
Fat bike for beach riding errr looking at the 'scenery' 😯
Thanks for the comments.
I have to agree the Alpine is a lot of bike for Qld. Most of the riding is XC style especially around the trail centres and places such as Mt Nebo. Soul sounds the perfect bike...
