Full sus, disc brakes, £184. He's onto a winner.
Also, it's literally 'Boss'.

Being your friend I am sure he is pretty thick skinned 😉

That is pretty bad though and reminds me of this

Please don't let him.
How about a second hand Genesis Core, or similarish.

Good god! Does he plan on going out on it much or one ride for 3 miles then confined to the shed?

You lot need to get over the wheel size thing. There is NOTHING wrong with 26"

That's the sort of help I'm after... Derbyshire is a bit far away though.

You sure it's just not easier to join in the mocking?

There's a chance he's already bought it, in which case.. YES!

Genuinely don't think they should be allowed to call that a mountain bike and claim it can 'tackle any off-road terrain'.

http://www.decathlon.co.uk/rockrider-500-mountain-bike-id_8293150.html

It's a bit more expensive, but it's approximately 100x the bike.

Alright.. colleague 🙂

I'll send him the Rockrider link once I've found out if he's actually bought the Boss lump or not.

It's a 26er. Reason enough to buy it.

Just had a chat - he's ordered, but not paid. I think I've persuaded him to cancel... max is £200 though 🙁

The bike shop I work in is 2 doors away from a Halfords, I have 2 or 3 of these bikes a week come into our workshop with play in the rear wheel bearings. The first few times, we stripped the rear hub out and found the hub shell completely cracked inside. So now we just offer them a new rear wheel, and refuse to work on the original wheels. Dreadful bikes as we all know, but theres another reason not to bother.

Nice!

However, its just a bike 🙂 What does your mate expect to do with it 🙂

If it's only typing on this forum it will be fine 😉

As you have downgraded him to 'colleague' just point him towards some things in Gumtree .

or

If you want to be his 'friend',the most excellent 'friend' ,the one he will constantly mention to all those attractive single women that he knows, then go out SH bike shopping with him. 😉

OR you could if you were really evil...........

Encourage him to buy it then take him on a really big ride with lots of climbing. Make sure he can't work out where he is so he can cut the ride short and if possible no phone signal so he can't phone for help.

Then film his melt down for us all to enjoy.

My friend started like this with a £100 budget for a 2nd hand mtb. 2 years later ive lost him to the dark side and he has 3 Road bikes worth more than my car.

[brummie accent]That’s Boss[/Brummie accent]

I would have said "boss" was more Mancunian than Brummie.

This gets my vote. The only thing that makes climbs fun is seeing someone else suffering more. Pick a cheeky route with a few stiles for him to lift the bike over too.

Someone else in the office has been telling him the Boss is a no go, so hopefully he'll see sense!

I'd certainly rather be on the Burner.

If you were my friend, I'd thank you for taking whatever steps necessary to talk me out of it, in the long run.

Get him to Decathlon, or on Pinkbike. For his sake.

We did it! Thanks folks, he's going for the rockrider from Decathlon. 🙂

I don't suppose anyone knows about the sizing on them? The size guide says L is 28inches? 😕
He's about 6 foot.

I had a rockrider a few years ago (different one) and the sizing was generous - I'm 6ft1 and went for a large, but only just, I would have been okay with a medium. Best solution (as always) would be to try before you buy, but ime the stores don't often have the full range of sizes available to try.

as mad as might sound, i think the '28' means it's a 29er...

?

My boy has one of those Rockriders from last year. Changed the pedals and it rides really well, especially for the money. Would happily ride round on it.

Can't help on sizing, sorry. He's 13 and rides a small.

Yeah, don't think that's an option. Hey, even if it's the wrong size, at least it's not a BOSS! 😆
