I had a major clear out recently - and it continues - so now lucky enough to have some cash to “invest” in a new bike
I’m down to just two in the collection now:
1. My beautiful Shand Bahookie Rohloff - rigid 29er spec - I use this for all manner of things from all day gravel rides to Singletrack in the local woods but full rigid means it has its limitations although I do run it with a dropper and 2.4 tyres
2. my Scott Solace premium road bike - ultegra spec and around 7kg - quick bike fur group rides
I've got £1500-£2000 to spend and here’s the options I’m looking at:
1. Spesh Chisel in base spec (currently 50% discount) and upgrade to some Fox forks from Merlin
2. Spesh Epic carbon HT - currently on offer at c £1600 but the spec is a bit low even fur that price so forks would also potentially need an upgrade
3. stop messing about and go all in for a relatively short ravel full susser - Canyon neuron 6 looks good at about £2k
4. Or I could do something completely different and plug some sus forks into the Shand and get something like a Genesis CDA gravel/winter bike for just riding about
I keep going round the houses - the thing I often grapple with is overlap between bikes - so not having a clear choice for a given ride - and yes I realise that’s very much a first world problem! - the XC hard tails prob overlap too much with the Shand - so the full susser starts to make sense for more gnarly rides/trail centres? But some 130mm Fox forks on the Shand and I’d possibly have the perfect all rounder -
What would the STW massive do?
Canyon Neuron because less crossover and increase the versatility of your quiver for potential uplift days.
What kind of riding are you looking to do, that the existing bikes can't handle?
No way a gravel bike makes sense here.
I’d say FS. Like my Neuron cf8, the older one.
My 2 bike quiver is the Neuron and a gravel bike with 2 sets of wheels
Look at the vitus fs bikes as well
Where is the chisel 50% off?
@honourablegeorge - several places but take a look at JE James 👍
