Now that titles got your attention... I’ve almost finalised the component choices on an earis 120 and just wanted to check my sanity.
Originally wanted the Yaris they were offering however they’re not available anymore so I’m thinking pike rc 140mm over revs.
Going for the new nx 12 speed as it’s only 50 quid more than 11 speed nx. I’m after some shimano brakes as they’re all I’ve ever ridden and demoing bikes with srams wasn’t great, unsure between deore or plumping for slx’s (do they have any real benefits?)
Finally, I’ve heard the e1700 wheels are stronger than the m1900 or m1700’s however I don’t know if this is actually the case.
Trying to keep the total price reasonable but thought the forks and wheels were the best bits to upgrade.
Cheers
Pikes are good, new revs are pretty good - same lower leg so no flex but Pike damper is better. Brakes - Deore are fine IMO - and if you get a problem just rep;ace the whole thing. Not sure SLX/XT are any better at stopping you.
Sorry - can't help with the wheels - not a clue!
Think SLX & XT have a bit more adjustment, but Deores *always* score well in every bike mag review I've ever read. Having had loads of grief with both my SLX & XT leaking, I'm inclined to agree with crashrash and opt for the super-cheap-to-replace Deores, -OR- stump up for something like Hope or Formula in the hope of something more reliable.
Helluva difference in price compared to Deores though mind..
Suspension, my logic (when speccing up my own Bird a couple of years ago) was to get the best bouncy bits I could afford, and build the rest around what was left of my budget. Haven't regretted a thing about that decision so far. I went for Pikes, btw.
was to get the best bouncy bits I could
Spot on, the bits you don't want to replace should be the best you can get but also remember with rockshox forks cartridge swaps are possible later on.
Id be tempted by gx though not sure of the premium
I like slx calipers - they gain the thread in the pad retention hole so you can use the threaded pad retainer pin, and the hose is attached via a banjo so you can change the angle of hose exit - a small thing maybe but useful on some frame configurations.
Slx and above used to have the ceramic pistols too. Not sure if that's still the ccas or if it's actually much of a real world benefit.
Personally I like Sram guides, but if going Shimano I’d go Deore from what I’ve read and out in 200/180 rotors.
Pikes over Revs if you can afford it.
E = enduro I think. M= all mountain / trail? E wheels should be stronger. I’ve got e1900’s and they’ve taken all the stick I can throw at them and they’re still true.
I'd go for the Pikes if you can. I have the Yaris on my One20 and they are good (better now with the Debonair spring) but probably overbuilt for the travel.
Re: the brakes my last bike had the previous gen SLX brakes and they were good stoppers but quite grabby, they do have the ceramic pistons - which as I found out don't take well to being pushed in with a screwdriver. crunch. leak. replace
New bike has the Guide RE which so far I've found to be reliable and plenty powerful enough with good modulation
jeez can't believe no one said big tits and a nice ass yet!
That above but don't forget she must have a nice dial. 🙂
Oopps forgot must be able to whip up top nosh.
