I'm pathetic. Even my mum has panniers, but I know nothing about them.
Job means carrying all my gear (shirt, trousers, lunch etc.) on the ride, tried a 20l rucksack and hated it. So now my poor beautiful Tripster is going to be insulted by having a big lump hanging off it's rear...

Something light... so, rack, (might have one if dig through the garage) but thinking this?

and want a 20l-ish pannier with a few interior pockets/compartments to divide stuff up. Easy to carry off the bike... any recommendations?

2 small Ortlieb panniers. Or a Caradice Camper Longflap.

Beam rack and dry bag(s) an option?

Much easier/quicker to remove and refit, pretty cheap too...

Rack's fine if it holds the pannier for commuting. Ortlieb are robust but if you need quick access (think rucksack zip pockets) not so useful. If you can carry phone, wallet, pass elsewhere all good.

I've just bought a Jobsworth rack from on one, it's decent enough, disk compatible and cost a tenner.

There have been a few cheap Boardman panniers on eBay and in TK Maxx, but they don't have internal dividers.

Ortlieb's are silly money. Don't really want to pay that much for something so boring!

I love my carradice panniers, I like that they're kinda traditional looking and made in the UK.

Go to On-One and surf the bargain bin.
Lots of cheap crap there that'll work but not excite.

Another BIG THUMBS UP for Caradice.

Excellent quality, waterproof and great customer service. U.K. Made as well.

Tried cheaper panniers for commuting, shirt and trousers not as good as the Caradice.

I think you've cracked it Timbur - £5!! Silly not to!

Thing is, on that Carradice site, there are loads. No idea what to go for.

I have a Carradice bike bureau for my laptop and some work gear. It's shite. Closure is rubbish, straps flap everywhere and foul your feet, and not enough pockets. Fabric is good, but everything else - rear stiffener, bottom protector etc is just crap plastic riveted on.

And the rack... has to be compatible with the disc brakes by the look of it... this is too hard for me.

That Tortec Velocity rack is great. Weighs next to nothing, but is very stiff and keeps the panniers tucked in out of the wind. Not sure it'll clear your disc calpier tho

Tubus Fly Evo is a lot "cleaner" than the rack you linked to (and spendier) and is disc brake compatible.

I've found one "front" pannier is be big enough for shoes / trousers / shirt / lunch / lock / waterproof jacket. The 'Sport roller city' front panniers are at the more reasonable end of the Ortlieb price scale if you can make do with one compartment (and add your own shoulder strap), and mount easily on a rear rack.

Ooh thanks tillydog. I'll order that rack, looks perfect. 2x25L panniers is rather overkill though. I fink that's what you've linked to there

Watch out for fitting the fly rack. Need a good bit of bending skill.

Was just on SJS Cycles - they list the disc compatible racks for dopes like me. Blackburn one looks good. (plus 2 week wait with Rose )

Despite the description, they are 25L *in total* (12.5L each). Don't seem to be able to buy them singly.

Blackburn racks are really decent.
Got one going on 15 years old, no issues.

As long as it's made out of tubing, not rod, fits and carries what you want, it'll be fine.

Hang on, a Tripster?
Get a stainless Tubus you tightwad, they're lovely.
They look good and don't corrode either.
🙂

Google images suggests the Airy fits.
The first pic I clicked on ended up being one of Somafunk's bike.
Odds on that?
🙂

Your safest bet is to check the dimensioned drawings of each rack on the Tubus web site.

Give SJS, Spa or Keep Pedalling a bell in the morning?

They'll know for sure.

It'll only partially meet one of your requirements, (in that you can get them singularly) but if you do want a single, small'ish pannier, maybe have a look at the Altura Arc Panniers.
Them come in either a 15 or a 20l version.

They've only got a haul-loop to moving them around off the bike, and no internal pockets tho' (but you can get around the latter by using drybags to organise your stuff & Alpkit do a decent range of lightweight drybags).

If your rack's deck is wide enough, maybe use a rack top bag as an alternative to a single pannier ?

STREAMLINER DISC DLX , by Axiom is a great rack for discs and it keeps the panniers away from your heels.

After coping with cheap ones for years, I realised it's better to sped a bit of cash and get something reliable and good looking. I bought a Tortec Velocity rack and an Ortlieb Office Bag.
The rack actually looks OK (cos it's fairly slim and will fit around discs if needed), ad the Office Bag is 100% waterproof ad easy to carry around for work. It's also big enough to carry what I need for the day. If you're using it every day, then you'd be silly to skimp - the expensive ones aren't cheap(!) but they are much easier to use and worth the piece of mind.

Carradice SQR Tour Slim. 10,000 commuting miles with mine and counting. 2 seconds on and off. Just a plastic block on the seat post when you're not using it rather than a whole rack. There's a plastic strip on the bottom which means you can use it as a mudguard without the bag getting wet. Kept my arse dry loads of times when I've not had full guards on.

Now called the Super C slim

Thanks everyone! All the input really appreciated - ended up ordering the
Axiom Streamliner Disc - comparing weights it's one of the lightest. Cyclestore had it pretty cheap, so bought a Blackburn pannier off them. And some shoes.
Hopefully I'll get a locker at work one day and not have to carry so much.
Never seen a place with so many cyclists, must be 30 bikes in the sheds every day!

Fits fatbikes too, or so it claims, the Wazoo has rack mounts... I think!

Thanks C_G, but my order arrived yesterday. What size are your panniers?
The Axiom Streamline was so easy to fit. (Said weight: 575g on the website and 750g on the packaging 😕 )
Pannier is perfect size, but had to go as far back as poss to not touch my leg.

So, this morning - my back is FREE! My shoulders aren't Stiff! But by crikey the bike felt heavy going up the hills! Thats the trade off, I guess.

Ah, no worries there. Might be after smaller, as I've worked out how to leave some stuff here (at work).
