Looking for suggestions as to how to improve the feel of my forks.

They are fox float Talas RLC 140 from 2010. Currently I seem to have two choices...

1) Run the compression damping set low - great for the ups and really subtle on roots etc for climbing but... on steep stuff the fork really dives through the travel.

2) Run the compression damping set higher - doesn't dive on the steep stuff but really notice the lack of root type sensitivity - especially at speed.

So I'm aware that what I've just written is probably what's supposed to happen but I was looking for any other suggestions on pressure / rebound which might help so I don't end up constantly adjusting the low speed compression during the ride. I'm a fairly light rider (77kg) and I don't get a lot of airtime.

Thanks

You havent mentioned the pressure your running it at.

Im 90kg and run at 60 psi on my 160mm Talas's and ride about looking for stuff to pop off, jump over etc. I have my comp about 4 clicks clockwise and like it.

Shorter travel forks may be more or less sensitive to the adjustment.

My mates find mine quite hard, but it dosent dive / bob and you can really mash the pedals to get up to speed in order to boast over something.

Also make sure you service the lowers, that makes them more supple.

Dont forget your never going to get a 'perfect' ride. There will always be some compromise.

I like dont mind a slightly hard feel as it gives me feedback and saves my fat ass for when I end up going wrong. Ive ended up going over the bars too many times with forks that dived too fast.

Back the compression damping off and play with differnt sag settings and then fine tune your fav sag setting with the compression clicker.

I have exactly the same problem with my F29 120 FIT RLC. Going down steep stuff I have about 30mm of available travel left. As you say, putting more air in just makes it harsh over the smaller stuff on the level. Winding up the compression damping doesn't help for sustained downhill sections.
I've never had this problem with a Rock Shox.

Just FYI, check your air chamber doesn't fill with oil from the lower leg. This is a known problem with FIT forks. This reduces available travel and starves the lower bushings of lubrication leading to CSU wear and expensive replacement.
