I think it's a Specialized Stumpjumper from '95. Tange Prestige tubing, direct drive forks, mixed LX and XT components.
Here are the pics: Specialized Stumpjumper
What about this frame? Worth to upgrade the components (brakes) and use as a training bike?
Looks like a '95 from the spec / colour.
For if it's worth upgrading, difficult to say, the frame is nice, good rim brakes can be hard to find / expensive; XT / XTR v brakes can go for a lot on ebay, Magura HS33's are another good option.
The geometry / feel of the ride will be different to a modern bike, but it will still ride well.
Would head over to retrobike, as this is something to ask over there.
I had a 96 S/works steel f/f which had been hanging up for 8 years ish, I rebuilt it rode it and hated it ( it hurt my arms and arse, it steered like a barge it was awful)
Get something modern
Sorry
What was the problem with the frame? Was the front (forks) low?
Is Direct Drive Prestige tubing the same as Tange Prestige?
I had one of those 2nd hand a few years back used it as a ss. Very nice to ride. Yes it won't handle like a modern bike, but they ride so well.
Heres mine, resprayed and put back to gears for when I sold it.

Is direct drive prestige tubing same as tange prestige?
If its not the exact same then it will be something very similar. The steel stumpjumper of that era used a top notch tube set as the only one "better" in their range at that time was the M2 Metal Matrix frame. Just had a look through the 95 catalogue and it doesn't give any further info other than direct drive prestige
I've tried to find any other info in the '95 catalogue, but couldn't find... So maybe it's not Tange Prestige, but sg. similar. (The older frames (from '94 i.e.) have other stickers...)
For what was there primo steel frame of that era when steel frames were still where it was at it would be something very very similar and the fact they've included prestige in the name suggests to me at least that it is. either way it a cracking frame and theres very little difference between all the top steels anyway excepting recently developed ones like 953
iirc Direct Drive was what Spesh called their rigid forks. I'm pretty sure the fork on my 95 'hopper was (is) a direct drive fork. Stumpy of that era would be Tange Prestige tube set with a spesh direct drive fork.
If it were mine I'd probably ss it whilst scouring ebay and all the usual places like retrobike to rebuild to original spec...
These are the original drivetrain, etc. on the bike. Maybe the stem is sg different...
