I am after a decent set of wheels to match the colour of my new frame ( white! ) I need something relatively strong and able to handle most types of mountain biking. Relatively light and ideally under £250 for the pair.
Any suggestions as to what i should look at? Some of the Halo wheels look ideal but on the weighty side!
Any suggestions of what I should be looking at or any good offers at places right now?
Pro 2 on mavic 719
mavic 719 arn't available in white are they?
second hand ex1750 rims on pro 2 hubs - £250
Hope Hoops Pro 2 on White Stans Flow rims?
hope hoops 717 / 521 s and forget the white!!! Great wheels
I like the idea of Hope pro 2 on stans flow rims, problem is the price...
Only place i can find is :
http://www.justridingalong.com/shop.php?product=200
which will do a custom build for £400 for the lot, which is lots of money.. bit more than what i wanted to pay!
Any advice on getting these built?
pro 2 on whatever stans rims suit you the best.
I got mine from CRC that is flow black on pro2's and with a 10% discount thats floats around quite often i even got the Stans no tubes kit all for £258 delivered which is a good price. Just wait for a code then go for it.
I think the white ones may be more expensive come to think of it.
+1 for Pro II and 719.
They may not be white, but they're tough and light. If the colour is that important then you can get them sprayed.
Seems they are OOS of the flow, the ZTR 355 are available but are even more lightweight. Something tells me the 355 are going to broken rather quickly?
I plan on doing lots of trails with light jumping and bits of downhill so a combination! Would the 355 suffice? If not then i believe the Mavic 717 are a good option ( just not white =( )
We've got these:
http://www.moonglu.com/shop/hope-hoops-pro-2-on-white-stans-flow-rims/
I know they're slightly over budget but they fit the white rim remit.
just a question rik, but how many times you been on a xc/st/trail bike ride. 🙂
More importantly, how many times am i going to go?
(Lots hopefully..)
thats deflection.
I had a set of those ^^^ from Moonglu and there are ace 🙂 Top build as well. Also have a set of 719/Pro II on my hardtail. Of the two I'd go Flow/ProII.
I think im going to go for the Hope Pro 2 + Flow rims. Should be a nice change!
Few more questions
1) Is it worth me spending all this money? Ive been doing up my bike but ive only done around 4 off road cycles now and this is the " finishing touch " to my bike. I plan to do much more offroading.
2) Will i trash my new wheels since i am looking at lightweight wheels and i am not going to be as good as an experienced rider.
My bike so far is Shimano SLX bits, with Hope Tech X2 brakes and Rockshox Tora Coil UTurn 318 Forks and a Gary Fisher Big Sur 2010 frame with DMR V8 pedals I am just left with heavier wheels in green.... =(
Anyone with some further info on above questions ?
In answer to your questions:
1) Only you can decide that.
2) You'd only trash Flow rims if you were extremely clumsy and doing big drops. You don't mention how much you weigh, 717s are decent rims but if you're using anything above a 2.2" tyre then they're more likely to roll on the rim when sharp cornering.
I've had 719s for 3 years which are very good but, have moved over to Flows and don't regret it. They're quite a bit wider than a 719 but only slightly heavier. You can afford to run narrower tyres on the Flows due to them being wider and tyres seem to spread more on them. I've gone from running 2.3" to 2.1" on a hardtail.
The Flows feel rock solid and tyres don't feel like they're rolling at all, and I'd say they're an excellent skill compensator.
When you can afford it get some tubeless tyres for the Flows, you can run them at a lower pressure for more comfort and better traction.
I really wish I'd seen the Moonglu wheels before I got my boring Hope Hoops. Black, feh.
I've got a set of Red Pro 2 on white Stans Arch rims from Moonglu. Been great so far.
Zangolin, that Glory sure looks sweet!
