Looking to upgrade my SRAM Guide Rs on the old Trek.

Been looking at a number of options including:

Magura MT7
Shimano Saint
SRAM Code R (If I could get hold of them)
Shimano Zee

I'm angling towards the Magura's as it sounds like they have big amounts of power and good modulation.

Although I have heard they can be a bit spongy (possibly down to the brake lever), which isn't very good.

The Shimano's are catching my eye as well though, as like a more digital feel to brakes and to know their working as soon as I hit the levers.

For riding around Calderdale, the odd trip to the Lakes/ Snowdonia, but main concern is for a big Alps trip this summer. Need something that will be good on the big descents.

Any other recommendations I haven't thought of would be good.

If someone in the West Yorkshire area has either the MT7s or Saints/ Zee's and doesn't mind me giving them a little go that would be amazing.

Mt7 are much nicer than my XTs. More power and more modulation.
Not tried the others.
Hope tech 4 makes xt and MT7 feel really lacking

Thanks Matt

I hadn't looked at the Hope's, as wasn't too keen on how much lever you have to pull before feeling the bite (based on previous experience).

Is this an issue still on the newer Tech 4 brakes?

I would concur.
Eldest_oab went from MT5 to XT 4 pot - and the Shimano's lack ultimate power and feel comparison. Plus, he's crashed and broken 2 XT levers, compared to multiple crashes on the Magura's only needing a single 'breakaway' clamp section at iirc £5.50.

Hayes Dominion A4 (or T4 if you want to save some weight). Best lever feel and most power other than Hope V4 or Trickstuff.

Formula Cura 4. Had MT7s and felt mushy and plasticky.

Had the mt7s, levers are crap and prone to leaking and being impossible to get bled right. One of mine was ok, the other let air in every ride.
Binned the levers and fitted XTR levers to the mt7 calipers.
All the power (way way more powerful than with the mt7 lever), way more modulation than Shimano and so far after many months of riding, utterly faultless.

I have mt7's and a set of formula cura 4 I would recommend the formulas, better modulation and feel, more reliable and easier to bleed.

I've mt7 on my fs, Trail (mix of mt7 and mt8) on my pace and mt5 trail on the ebike. Just pulled a set of code r off the ebike.
Magura a a great brake if bled right, if not you get mushy brakes. A bit of practise and knowledge is what you need.

(Code r set will be being sold)

Thanks for the recommendations.

After a bit of research it is looking like the Formula Cura 4 for the win.

Does anyone know where I can actually get these in the UK though, as the Geometron site isn't much help?

I have found an E motorbike shop in the UK selling them (Shudder), but apart from that it is all shops in Europe like Lordgun and Bikeinn.

Also having trouble sourcing the 203mm rotors, would it be okay if I used rotors from another brand such as SRAM?

Get them from R2 bike. Buy each end seperately. Even with individual postage you'll be under import duty and save over buying from anywhere else.

Dont forget olive and inserts if you need to shorten hoses.

Run mine with Magura Mdp rotors, but most should work fine.
