You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hi guys, hopefully you guys can help me out of a mess.
Short version of long story - I recently bought a used bike. I was told the bike had 2011 Float 140 fork. On collection of the bike I had a quick once over and all seemed well. Other than bouncing the forks and checking for stantion damage I didn't really pay them much attention. (yes I realise this was stupid in hindsight!!!)
On getting the bike home and having a proper look I realised there was no air valve, and also the forks had 'talas' stickers on them. In short it they are coil forks with the wrong aftermarket labels.
Using google I reckon they are 2008/9 Vanilla 140R forks. They have a blue damper compression adjuster and a red rebound adjuster. Please see attached photos.....
The forks are ok and I've stripped them and after a service will be fine to use/sell. However I would like to know exactly what they are in case I do want to sell them. Also I've had the spring out of them and aren't sure how to see what load spring they are. Is there a way of chekcing this. Finally to confirm they are 140mm forks I take it I just measure the stantion of the fork when reassembled.
P.S. I've contacted the seller who has lost interest now he has my money and lives too far away for an angry visit.....
Thanks.

not sure if these photo links work?
The blue adjuster should be spring preload, and the springs are colour coded so see a look on Mojo's website should give you an idea on spring weight, have a look at the spring to see if its got a blob of paint on it somewhere, sometimes you have to clean the oil off to see the colour
They could be a Talas fork with a coil conversion rather than having the wrong stickers as well, pretty common conversion I think.
Yeah, I suppose they could be a conversion. I take it though, if they are converted to a coil system the 'talas' adjustability system is lost, so essentially turned into a Vanilla.
Also there is no lockout feature....
I've heard it's a one way conversion and they deffo haven't got a lockout, but vanillas are really good forks IMO, so if you can't sort it out with the seller I'd get the correct stickers and spring (if the one in it isn't right) and go ride..
If they've been converted I guess I'll never know their true past! They're getting new seals, the correct spring and some fresh oil/lube. As the stantions are AOK hopefully they'll be good to me!
Thanks for your help.
This is a useful site. It has all the model years for fox forks and pics/specs etc. Top right of page has dropdown menu for the years
