Morning all

Watching some time triallers yesterday, one had the brightest rear light I've ever seen, even in the bright sunshine you couldn't miss it.
It was flashing in a sequence of three, red red then kind of off white. It also looked like it could possibly be square.
Anyone got any idea's? Wasn't there a light on one of those kick starter projects a while back that was square?

That could well be it, by damn it was bright.

I'm not convinced brightness alone is the best thing to go for.

I hate being blinded when driving.

the scorpion is nice....and expensive...
during all these winters commuting I´ve learned that some light throw to the side is even more important than brightness..
quite happy with this one..

I'm with you, too bright and especially strobes, can be very dangerous.

They seem to have a good approach though.

* Regulations surrounding rear lighting for bicycles is a grey area in the UK and if you want to be absolutely certain of being within the law, then don’t use the TT mode. At FOUR4TH we find there are specific situations (eg. when we're riding a TT on a busy 'A' road in blinding sunlight) when we would prefer to chance the unlikelihood of receiving a £30 fine, than risk being rear-ended by a driver who just didn't see the cyclist in front of him. It’s for you the rider to make that judgement call.

That seat mount is a fantastic idea.
Buy yourself a pint whoever thought that up.

@ al and neil,I'm not looking to buy one, just wondered what it was. I'm happy enough with what I have for the amount of after dark riding I do.
I'd tend to agree with their website as well, the TT mode would be overkill for anything but a busy road in bright light.

If you want something almost as good but 1/2 the price look at the moon shield, usually super cheap at merlin. Killer output and USB rechargable.

I like this cateye one from a driver point of view...

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/cateye-tl-rapid-3-led-rear-light/

I prefer the approach of a very bright non-flashing light supplemented by a less bright flashing attention getter mode, which this cateye model has. Cateye also do a seat rail mount. I hate super bright flashing lights. They just piss people off, especially the front Cree led lights where people have angled them up right into oncoming drivers eyes. Blinding drivers cannot be a very good strategy for any road user.
