Please can i have some advice?
So, following on from this PSA - https://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/psa-fox-34-29-130mm-300/ - i brought some new forks 🙂
Now i need to figure out how to make them fit, I have:
- Hope pro 4 hub
- RockShox Maxle Lite XC Quick-Release Axle 15x100mm (Length: 148mm)
I have 2 questions:
Question 1 - Hubs: As the new forks are Boost 110m i think i need either:
-
<li style="list-style-type: none;">
- Option 1 - hope conversion kit - do i just need one of these and it pushes the hub 10m to the left? https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/hub-spares/hope-pro-4-15mm-110mmboost-conversion-spacer-hub100914n/
- Option 2 - ebay special - this looks to keep the wheel in the centre with a 5m spacer each side of the hub and a spacer for the rotor? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3824905544802.
Question 2 - Axle: assume i will need a new axle? One 10m longer?
- Maybe something like this which looks to be 158mm? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/144943516046?chn=ps&mkevt=1&mkcid=28
- Or this - https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/p/nukeproof-thru-axle-front-15mm ?
Fun this 🙂
The cheap eBay kit is the easier option as you don't need to re dish the wheel but the Hope one won't have 5mm spacers that can be lost when you take the wheel off(best to tape the cheap spacers onto the hub).
Can't you just use the axle that comes with the fork?
Q1 option 1. It just works
Q2 the forks should cone with a axle
Q2. Yeah. I am an idot. Thanks.
Q1 - interesting. Both makes sense. Would probably re-dish the wheel at some point then.
Would you need new spokes/re-lace for that?
It's a fraction of a milli in spoke difference, you're only pulling it over 5mm so your spokes are fine, I'd definitely go for the single Hope end cap conversion for about a tenner last time I checked
Tha folks. As always super helpful.
I got some new forks too, and last week used a Hope Boost adapter on a wheel.
Redishing took all of 5 minutes - took half a turn off each of the disc/left side spokes and added 2 turns on the non-disc/right side. Very easy!
IMO you end up with a slightly stronger wheel too, as the tension left to right is more equal after redishing (left side is normally higher due to the space the rotor takes up).
Oh, and yes, you will get an axle with the new fork.
Other option without redishing is the MRP better boost adapter. Stock for hope seems to be out until end August though.
I used the MRP boost adapter when I changed to boost fork. Was completely painless, old ends caps off, new ones on and done.
I prefer the ebay specials. It's more faff when you remove a wheel, but for me that's not often. But the advantage is no redishing so I keep complete interchangability between bikes. obviously not an issue if you're all modern and boosty but I'm not
110m? That's going to clip something at some point...
...I blame the heat making my fingers swell
MRP boost conversion two thirds the price of the hub versus a £10 for Hope and a simple re-dish, it's a no brainer for me.

Exactly - the MRP kit may be good, but is it £40 (or 4x more than the Hope kit) good?
Hope conversion works perfectly - cost very little when I converted my non boost pro4 front hub to boost.
Re-dishing takes about 5 mins and needs nothing other than a spoke key. Think the rim needs to move towards the drive side - so I assume I did half a turn of tension off the non drive side on every spoke - then half a turn of tension onto the drive side. And repeat until the rim is in the middle.
Specific circumstances. I'm sharing a wheel between boost and non so unless redishing is unnecessary I need it moved out on the disk side too.
Anyway, the MRP is out of stock so I'm going to attempt the cheapy eBay and some insulating tape.
