I have a used Marin Mount Vision '08, which has started creaking like hell. I stripped all the pivots down, removed the dropouts, bottom bracket and greased and reassembled and the creak had gone. 2 rides later it's back and bad as ever. I'm going to North Wales on friday for a week and need the bike to be ok....any ideas before I ask the bike shop to replace the bearings?

Twice I've taken the dropouts off and greased them, can't see how it's still them unless they are faulty in some way?

Mate of mine had same problem and his was rear dropouts. Not the most obvious fault and last thing to be checked.

It was the dropouts on mine too. Grease worked for a while, I'm now replaced the quick release with a Halo hex not so quick release, the problem has gone.

Worth cleaning and greasing seatpost, and saddle rails too, they're often a source of creaks.

Marin used to recommend special grease (SKF LGAF3) for their pivots.

mmmmm it's marin melody!! It takes a while but you'll grow to love it, I have a 04 and 09 and they are both prone to it!! only answer is to turn your ipod up!!

I'd also inspect all the welds and around the linkages for cracks too!

My '09 did it loads - traced it to the cheap rear QR that was fitted. Have since put the Maxle conversion on it and it's been quiet (most of the time). I remove, clean and grease the drop out fixings a couple of times a year to keep it quiet.

With mine it was creaking pivot nuts. Took the dust covers off each pivot, removed the nuts, smeared the grease, refitted the nuts, more grease then stuck the dust covers back on. Quiet as a quiet thing now.
