You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hello all, my friend is thinking of treating himself to a full susser in the new year, being slightly on the tall side @ 6ft6" were struggling to find a him a good steed with the normal run of the mill manufacturers. What have the tall people of ST world got in there collections? or any ideas and pics please, much appreciated. He rides xc - trail.
You need to speak to Tootall. I think he had his FS custom-made.
Hi my mate who is the same hieght went for a xl giant anthem which did kinda fit ok used it for a year with no real problems and then by chance after a sunday morning ride where we were talking about bikes etc i mentioned the sasquish which turner do and lo and behold there was a 6pack on ebay usa going! lets just say he loves it cost a fair bit with import but well worth it he says. The other option of cause is 29er there are loads coming through now and they do seem to be much bigger on the frame sizing. To give you a clue the anthem had a 25.5 inch top tube and the turner is 27.5 makes my normal xl frames look like a small lol. He is on here goes by the name big cave dog. Good luck with your search.
Bats.
I'm 2m and have found that the XL Spec Pitch is a good fit.
santa cruz tall boy
salsa big mama
ventana el capitan
these all do massive framed full sus 29r's
if you are near leeds you or your mate can try my el capitan for size.
it is a 21'' frame, but it is massive.
I'm 6' 5" and ride an XL Helius AC. Final fit does depend on your leg/body balance but he should look at this in the first instance.
We offer full custom geometry on all of our frames (at a price) and have built full-sus frames to properly fit riders up to 6' 9".

XL giant trance here (6'4") I think I'm near the top end of what would fit that though, so it'll depend on the legs/body/arms ratio as above.
6'7" here and sold most of my 26" bikes over the last 2 years and now only have 29ers as my main bikes.
I have an XL Salsa Big Mama and have been very happy with it so far. If you want other big FS frames in 26" Trek are usually not too bad, Giant were big but i never felt right on my Trance - too perched. Yeti seem to come up quite big also.
In 29ers there is now a good choce from the main players - Trek(GF),Spesh, Giant, Kona and then there are the more niche people like Salsa, Niner, Santa Cruz, Turner, Ventana etc.
I'm midlands based if he ever wants to try the Salsa?
i think kona also make gate-sized designs, and if you talk nicely to orange you might get them to make you up an oversized front triangle.
He might find he doesn't need a frame *that* big though. I'm 6'3 and fit comfortably on a 17" frame (with a long seatpost). if his extra 3" is spread out, a 19 or 20" frame (Giants are certainly that size) would fit
6'7" here and ride an XL OnOne ScandAL and an XXL Turner Sultan (Sasquatch size). The Sultan is truly a superb fit and everyone who sees it marvels at how it doesn't look like a 29er with a 23" frame!
Bristol based if your mate wants a ride out on them.
I'm just over 6'4" and find my L trance a bit wee. XL just looked toooo big but I couldn't get one to test ride. I can live with it though.
What sizes are 29ers available in ? I need a 400 mm_pin on a 20 inch mtb and this would be the same on a 29er unless they are made in a 22inch version. Seat to ground may be further but seat to pedal will be the same be it a 26 inch wheel bike or 700c
As a shortie at 6'2 I will attest to the 29er strategy - for me it makes a massive difference (you just don't feel like you will go over the bars are much). You may be able to get away with a hardtail on the bigger wheels as they make the ground feel smoother!
. I'm 6'3 and fit comfortably on a 17" frame
I assume you have short legs and a long body ?
I'm 6'7" and ride a 18" M 575, also have had 18" Chameleon, 19" Reign X and i commute on a 23" XL XTC with 29" slicks. All have simialar TT lengths apart from the XTC, Reach and Stack are similar. I prefer the smaller frames for steep and technical riding otherwise your center of gravity is far too high and you just fall over! If you only rode XC then a gate would be better for a more efficient pedaling position
I assumed he didn't know what the word 'fit' meant.
otherwise your center of gravity is far too high
If it is technical, you're out of the saddle, so C of G is about the same regardless of frame size.
only 6ft 2" here but my 6ft4" pal can't ride my bike because he can't reach the pedals from where my seat is so I guess I have loooong legs..
On a 20" 456 with a short stem and in line post.
I also have an Large 2006 S-Works Enduro for Alp trips and UK DH'ing.
i got a merida 21" which fits great. im 6ft 5" which is for sale from today 😉
I'm 6'5 and have rode a 23" spesh which I found too big.
I've come down to 20" which is great, much more agile.
You can get a lot out of playing with stem length & angle, riser bar height, layback seatpost & seat position.
At 6'4" I found my XL stumjumper a bit big. Would be perfect I'd have thought.
I'm 6'3 with stupidly long arms and legs. I started riding a 21 with a 90mm stem and it was too cumbersome. I now ride a 19 with a 400mm post and it is fine with the post near maximum.
Unless he has really long arms and legs an xl and long seatpost/stem combo will probably do the job.
