I was out at Inners on Sunday, its years since i'd been.

I used to just go and do the XC but on Sunday I went out armed with Trailforks determined to ride some stuff I'd not tried before as well.

I enjoyed Angry Sheep and Green Wing but was so knackered from all the other climbing I'd done on the XC loop that after one go on each I just pootled down Caddon Bank (which isn't as good as I remembered) back to the car.

So I've booked an uplift for this Sunday.

What other trails would you recommend for a committed Glentress mincer?

Make or Break looks reasonably tame (even its graded orange on Trailforks) but I can't see myself smashing the drops on Matador just yet.

Ta

Rich

Make or break, but cut off left when you are about to come out of the bigger trees- Luge from there to the road then Deerhunter. Also Tunnel into the above..

Cresta is mostly tamer than the others too.

Hoggers delight is fun as a starter before Angry Sheep et al.

Assuming you want to come out at the car park/pick-up (and get your money's worth) then most of the trails cross over so you can easily take a trail slowly, scope it out and check the adjacent ones out.
We just did 4-5 trails repeatedly .... from the fireroad drop-off. I don't remember any compulsory scary features (but I just sent the kid down in front to discover them).

Make or brake, Cresta, old gold all spring to mind. The uplift is really friendly and we got tows from quite a few random people that took us on off piste or getting from one to another.

There was much much more but you can take it all slowly and just add in stuff as you are comfortable.
We saved Matador till the end and its not as scary as advertised 😉 (at least after building up all day)

I'm rubbish at remembering trail names but the lady behind the desk was very helpful at pointing out the easier routes when I was there a few weeks back. One of the simplest things to do is just look at the gradient on trailforks, most of them are pretty steep.

Hmmm, depends on your definition of steep, in comparison to the Golfie side, there's not really much to compare, all the named dh runs ain't steep, and all rollable Rich (chicken routes on big drops etc).

I love AS as well, but it means you waste time pedalling round the hill to get back to the other trails, it's not too far but still. Agree re Caddon bank, it's really not what I recalled at all! 🙂

Tbh it's such a maze of trails, you'll struggle to ride the same one twice! Hoggers delight will be wetter than an otters sandshoes.

Wear warmer clothes than you usually would, take plenty scran, you'll love it.

Second for the advice from the helpful lady at sign on. We like tunnel, and the trails leading off it. Deerstalker, gold

The trails* between Green Wing/Angry sheep and Make or Brake are harder than a lot of the dh runs, steeper, tighter and more technical. The dh runs are quicker with shorter steep sections.

Deffo go and ride Alastair Lees (two sections), you'll enjoy that I bet.

Rooty Lane / Rooty Bank is a great fun option if you're done Green Wing or Angry Sheep and want to get down to the bottom without anything too severe. It spits you out on the last bit of Caddon Bank.

I really like Salmon's Journey and I think it's a good medium-level option, not that difficult but has a few tricky bits and flows really well.

And if you enjoy that, maybe give Bart's Trail a go - bit harder but one of the most enjoyable trails on that hill IMO.

As above, Cresta Run is the most-fun of the classic trails there. I always have two or three runs of that when I'm on an uplift there.

Good idea- and stop to consider how much fun it was as an uphill stage for the EWS-E!

Tunnel -> Luge (left at fork at the very bottom) -> Right along the fire-road a wee bit and then down The Deer Hunter (the one that traverses the hill all the way along to the end of Matador)

It's our default 'can't be arsed thinking up a route, let's hit that' - route of choice for uplift days.

For context; Date Night scares the crap out of me; love Angry Sheep, happy on almost all of Cresta, most of Gold Run is much steeper than my comfort levels

Cheers guys.

What to avoid is probably just as important as what to ride.

I'm sure I've actually ridden Cresta on a skills day. It looks like a good alternative to get to the bottom of the hill rather than Caddon Bank

@chakaping or anyone else, what's Bart's Trail like in comparison to Not for Slowmophobes (Angry Birds) if you've ridden it? I've ridden quite a bit at the Golfie now but not so much at Inners.

I've not ridden angry birds but I've been told it's similar to Bart's.

You'll be fine riding Bart's I'm sure.

There's just one or two awkward steep corners that are tricky in the wet, if memory serves.

As above angry bird and barts are pretty similar to ride.
For me there's just one tricky right hander on barts with a kind of double root drop type thing.

Hard not to deploy a foot on that bit when it's slippy, eh?

Based on the amount of rain we've had, and forecast to get (it's absolutely pi55ing down at the moment), I'd avoid Hoggers.

Also, take extra clothing/shoes etc - especially as you're back into the car park on each run.

Council waterproofs might also be handy.

What wetsuit for...

Yeah forecast looks a bit damp. It will be fine so long as the car park doesn't flood I suppose!

Think I've deployed most parts of my body at one time or another round it in the wet. 😆

I’d avoid Hoggers.

TBF its normally wet anyway and you can only get SO wet.

Thanks chaka, stu. I'll give it a go next time I'm up there, Easter hopefully. There was one left hand corner that I struggled with on Angry Birds as it had a big wet root in it!

Give us a shout when you're up and I'll show you round some of the lesser used parts of the valley.

Arse.

They won't really run the uplift with the car park like that?

Well apparently the uplift is still running.

Guess I better find the hovercraft mode for the car

Thanks for all the advice folks, had a great day yesterday despite the weather.

The main carpark was actually flood free and open.

Really enjoyed Make or Break, Tunnel and Luge.

Cresta was well outside my comfort zone but I got down it in one piece, and rode more of it clean 2nd time down which is about all you can ask given the conditions.

I'll definitely be back for another uplift session.
