I'm trying to sort an on going BB problem on a couple of Scott bikes.
They're BB86 and BB91 respectively, same issue on each, everything fitted to manual, using proper tools but when tightening down the LH crank, the bearing binds up at the last couple of turns. I know GXP needs to be tight against the stops, but is seems like there's just not enough room on the splines by about 1.5mm.
I bought the Hope PF41 bottom brackets and GXP adapters. I'm trying to fit a GXP Force crank on the bb86 and a X01 GXP crank to the BB91. I can make it work fine, but with a tiny amount of play (which I'm not happy with) if I ditch either the bearing shield or the outer GXP adapter. I'm thinking at the moment to ditch the outer GXP adapter and buy some M22 packing shims at 0.1mm until I'm snugged up without binding.
Anyone had similar issues?
Could it be the Hope GXP adaptor - have you got it inboard or outboard of the bearing?
You fit them both sides of the bearing according to the Hope fitting diagrams, the inside one against the bearing, and the outer one after the bearing shield is fitted.
Wouldn't the inboard one effectively increase the length of the spindle, therefore you'd need to put a 1mm spacer behind the BB cup?
Not mentioned in the instructions.
EDIT - wouldn’t help anyway as moving the left hand cup wouldn’t effectively make the spindle longer.
