Hi,
I have a Sony helmet camera, that came with some shaped adhesive mounts. I also have a pissspot lid on which to stick the mount on.
Seems a stupid question, but for the best angle, is it best to mount it directly on top of the helmet, or a little bit forward/rearward on the lid?
The issue is that with the Sony helmet mount, it can not not adjust the angle like a go pro mount, which in that respect is a better design. Sony do sell an extra piece of kit to let you change the angle, but this just makes the camera stick out even higher, increasing the height and centre of gravity, so want to avoid if possible.
Bump
Maybe take a photo of yourself on the bike in your usual riding position to get a guide of where to mount the camera.
Getting the angle right can take a bit of fine tuning. If you can't adjust it wants its stuck on perhaps try using something temporarily sticky to hold it in place while you sit on your bike and see what you're filming.
If you stick it on top of your head like a teletubbie then you'll probably tear it off first time you fall off or go under a low branch. Is mounting it on the side an option?
Thanks both.
In terms of mounting options, there are fewer for the Sony cameras. They do sell a tilt mount, but that adds a lot of height and makes them even more unstable/likely to hit a branch.
I tried mounting it to my Giro ski helmet (on the side) using a go pro mount and adaptor. It made the helmet unstable and stuck out like one of ED 209's arms: [img]

I will try a temporary mounting rigged with some tape, and see how that sits. Unfortunately the curved adhesive does not fit that far forward on the helmet, (as the curve does not match that of the helmet on the top/frony), so the options where the pad will stick well to the helmet are frustratingly limited.
Buy one of these:

To adapt the casing to use GoPro mounts. It screws in nice and solid, better than any other adapter.
I have the HDR AS20 and it allows me to use all the GoPro adhesive mounts.
It may be possible to stick a flat adhesive mount on the side of the Sony case, to allow use of the GoPro head strap. I'm currently looking in to this.
