I’m looking for a new FF helmet and have just received a Bell Super DH which “feels” about right fit wise, I don’t have to cinch it super tight for example and can’t get finger under the shell, apart from the back - it feels like there’s a patch of bare shell (no padding) touching my skull - I don’t know if this dangerous? The padding is supposed to be just for comfort right?

I also tried a couple of normal/half shell POC helmets last year which also had my skull touching the shell, I initially put that down to my head not fitting POC’s design but not I’m not so sure.

You're correct, the padding is for fit, the foam is for protection. I've had a few like that over the years, as long as it's comfortable and snug (not tight) then you should be good to go
