Hi all
I cannot believe I am asking this question but after a small number of particularly unpleasant close pass incidents and some abuse hurled at my 13 year old cycling to and from school culminating in one today where he had to move left to avoid being struck by the wing mirror he wants a camera.
It HAS to be helmet mounted because if it's on his bars the school bike sheds will have obliterated the mount in 4 seconds flat and ideally I'd like something that shoots (missiles ideally but I'd settle for footage) front and back in a single unit.
He's really cool headed about all this and its not putting him off riding - he's nails like that - he just wants to report the worst offenders and I am happy to sponsor it. In my naivety I am hoping that the local constabulary might actually pay some attention if it's children being put at risk/bullied/abused and pull their finger out and do something when footage is submitted.
Before the victim blamers get in...
He rides on cycle paths wherever present
He has been taught and uses primary and good roadcraft (I know because I can see him using it unprompted when I occasionally pass him on my commute and when we road ride together)
He can handle a bike properly
This is 30mph residential roads at school run time
Roads policing in this area is practically non-existent and it is reflected in the utterly abysmal average standard of driving we see in the area.
I use a Chiili Camera and am pretty happy with it. Good footage and a decent price. The helmet mount works fine for me but is a bit flimsy being made of cordura and velcro but I have had it for a year or so and use it on my daily commutes and it is still working fine.

I’ve got a new Chilli Tech camera and mounts that I’ve never used. It would be ideal for your son.
You can have it for the cost of postage if you want.
The hot weather does seem to be correlated to a noticeable drop in the already poor driving standards.
You can get a helmet with built in cameras. Cyclevision in Oz I think…and I think there’s a rip off Rock Bros one too.

I'd be interested as well, although I can only think of 360 cameras that do this.

Are there any here? I thought this was a cycling forum.
I'm not aware of any action cams. that do front and rear shooting and would also be interested if anyone knows any that do. There's a version of the Garmin Varia system with a built in camera for rear shooting (I'd assume that they can be set to auto shoot triggered by the radar) but they're really expensive!
You might be able to pick up a secondhand GoPro Session as they're far less brick like than the current crop. I use a bar mounted one but am looking and helmet mounting it and trying to pick up a secondhand Smart Remote for the bars.
I got 2 chilli cams when they were on a cheap offer, always have 1 on my helmet and sometimes (rarely) the other on the side of the seat tube pointing backwards.
There was another similar thread recently:

@crossed - that's very kind. Let me know what you want for it/to cover postage and I'll get back to you.

Sadly there have been a few in the past but was meant slightly tongue in cheek - more to say I'm sufficiently convinced he's not riding like a twit and I was feeling a bit prickly last night.
Good on him for still wanting to ride and for you supporting him!
