I've never before done one of these, but seeing as the ones I've got are 2nd hand and costly to replace, getting the maintainace back on track to my own satisfaction seems worthwhile.
Looking at the manual, it's not difficult. A seating tool seems a good idea, but not for £35! I'll use a socket of the right dia...
Any other hints and tips? Suppliers, Service kits I should seek out/avoid?
Ta.

If it's a tool for seating the seals you need, Unior do one in various sizes (36mm, 35mm, 32mm, etc) and it's about a tenner on Amazon or EBay, very much worth having.

Is there a guide anywhere for the 50 hour service? I can't seem to find one.

Think mine is probably reaching/exceeding the service point so would like to pop the lowers off and have a poke about.

Also on the jobs list here!

Amazon want me to buy a pick and hook set too. They look worth having?

I'm going to take a spacer out while I'm in there to bump up to 140mm. with a bit more -ve pressure, this should have me back down to not much more than 130mm

How many notches of volume reduction are people running? I'm 70kg, and doing a few jumps and drops, but not mega sendz by any stretch. Been bumping up to stop bottoming out, now I'm at 5/8 and I'm coming back from "normal" rides with the o-ring .5cm off the crown. Leaving a bit there for unexpectedly heavy landings seems like a good plan. 5/8 seems like a lot for a smoothish, lightish rider, though?

Cheers Honourable, top tip.
Andeh - no vids specifically that I can find, but found a maintainance pdf by googling a bit further. Plenty of vids showing how to get the lowers apart.
Are you on 120mm Ned? You can increase the travel to 140? Might be useful, with great age comes great redness I'm finding.... sort of.

I did the travel adjust on mine on Saturday; easy as anything. 29er's only go up to 160mm travel though. 50 hour service is next on my list; but tbh they were totally clean inside; the oil looked pristine. I've definitely done more than 50 hours with them on as well..
