Sorry if this thread already exists, couldn't find it. Looking at a Hello Dave bike but I'm on the cusp of sizing.
I'm 6'3" so they suggest the XL but my current bike is a 2015 Specialized Enduro Evo in size L.
My riding style can be described as 'popping off roots and rocks.' Current bike feels small but not uncomfortably so and come from a BMX background.
Anyone of similar height got a Hello Dave and can advise on the feel of it?
Thanks,
Jonny
I'm 6'5" on an XL hello Dave. It's not very poppy/manually - I'm ex bmxer and have ridden loads of hardtails over the years. Long low slack new school bikes don't lend themselves to easily oiking the front end up but they do work for smashing down stuff and carrying loads of speed. It's more of a hardtail DH bike than a pump track bike. Good vfm and fun.
From what I've read they size up quite small even though they're a big bike. The steep seat angle and super slack head angle bring the ETT right in for a pretty compact seated position.
I'm 6ft and have just gone for the XL. Not built it up fully yet, so not ridden it, which isn't much help I suppose. But can't wait!
Hello fellow BMX riders! I cant comment on the sizing of the Hello Dave but I do agree its basically a DH Hardtail so may not be too lively, I'm guessing this is down to the super slack HT.
But @pttang I recently went from a large 2017 x wing enduro to a 2020 S5 and find the size so nice its unreal and have no issues with popping and manualling it, a longer bike that not as mentally slack as the Hello Dave I feel would suit you fine.
Going to the S5 on the MTB has inspired me to try a longer BMX now, currently on a 21"tt but have just picked up a 21.8"tt to try
OK, thanks all. So what I'm reading is... Go Long or Go Home!
Just my 2p - from memory the HD has a long reach / super steep seat angle / slack headtube / long chainstays.
None of these really contribute to a bike that’s easy to manual / pop - but will make it very stable downhill vs other hardtails.
The thing here is that whilst standing the long reach is relevant - but with a steep seat tube it means the seated position is a lot shorter than more traditional bikes vs their reach measurements. It’s getting a balance of the reach you want vs not being too cramped sat down.
I'm 6"4 and ride an XL.
I like it a lot 🙂 after two and a half years or so I still like it a lot. It feels good downhill- unsurprisingly. Surprisingly it is an excellent climber and absolutely fine on long xc trundles.

I'm 6"2 and have ridden my mates L frame, which was fine, but I'd prefer the XL if getting one myself, just for the extra reach when descending.
I'd agree it's not a 'poppy' bike, but they can be hustled about, and are quite stable to jump.
6'1" on an xl with 35mm stem. Perfect size for me. The bike is an absolute monster on downhills but due to the length and slackness poppy and playful it is not.
I’m 5’10 and the large is perfect for me. Hardtail dh bike is a good description although it jumps fairly well, manualling takes a bit more body language with the mega long chainstays but it feels super balanced. XL should be spot on for you I think.
Thanks everyone, went XL. Arrives next week so fingers crossed.
I still have my full sus for popping off roots and stuff. This is more for local cruising (super hilly and steep near me so sounds perfect).
This is clearly late but just to add my 10p.
A mate bought a Dave (size large) the other day and I had a go on it and it's MASSIVE. I'm 5'11" and it just felt huge, and way too big for me do anything but plough through stuff on. Technical stuff felt awful. Maybe that's just me, but the super slack front end had too much trail and was really flip-floppy to steer, and the long wheelbase made it even worse. Hopefully a bigger bloke will get on better with it. Good luck 😉
