I have a 09 frame, the 2 pinch bolts come loose all the time, already had them replaced due to them snapping in frame..
anyone else get this with theirs?
Hey.
Do you use thread lock on the bolts on your bike?
if they're snapping then it sounds like ther'es something more wrogn than a missing bit of threadlock - is the alignment ok?
Can't say I've got one but a mate has, he bought it second hand and one of his had lost the thread in the frame so had a longer bolt and nut. This snapped at the top of the Gap before we headed down from Fan y Big to Pencelli, lucky he spotted it (and that I had a m6 bolt hiding in the bottom of my camelback!). Long walk home from there.
Best to get more info wwaswas, if the bolts aren't being thread locked it would explain why they're coming loose. For me that is the first obvious question.
As for them snapping that could be caused by a lot of different things 😀
its a know problem with them snapping on these year frames..
warrranty replaced with new stronger bolts for me
the newer frames dont have these pinch bolts
Did you find out why the bolts where coming loose and did the new bolts come with thread lock on them ❓
the new ones are coming loose more than the old.
just checked and no thread lock on,so gonna get some on yes.
Can't say I had them come loose but I did go through about 2-3 on the driveside being snapped, had the frame sent off by 18Bikes to Jungle to get them sorted and all was Ok for a bit then it happened again. I was informed by Jungle that it was all down to a "weak" batch of bolts but there was never any conclusive evidence.
Anyhow the problem was solved once and for all by some thieving scally scrote who nicked it. 👿 Replaced it with another and got one of the very first "non pinch bolt" frames
Sounds like they are fatiguing if they are moving and destorting the alloy thread lock won't real help
Threads have a certain fit class once it's gone all kind of peculiarities can happen
I know it seems a bit daft and obvious but I would check any new bolts that come, actually have thread lock on them.
Blower can you have a look in the threads of the frame and see if there is any thread lock in them ❓
The bolts will snap if they come loose, the force of the suspension doing it's job will snap them off, they are probably only 6mm socket cap screws so not that strong.
If there isn't any thread lock on the screws/bolts threads, then chances are there was never any.
Also is there any coding on the bolts ❓ they could be stainless steel or high tensile steel.
Yeah make sure you loctite the six important threads
thanks for all the replys....
1stly,a few months back the drive side pinch bolt snapped, took it back to shop, who under warranty had to drill out bolt and put new threads in both pinch bolt sides, with apparantly stronger bolts this time..
they are coated in black paint not stainless steel..
so not taken the bolts out and yes there is no thread lock in the bolts or thread!!just want this right before i got to the Alps.
cheers.
