Plotting a dawn raid of Stoodley Pike, anyone local know what time we'd need to be up there to ensure we catch the sunrise? Appears to be differences between dawn/sunrise/first light times on various weather websites.
Early. Hth.
Err, sunrise in Calderdale? Chance would be a fine thing, you would need the perma-cloud to break.
I’m in Mytholmroyd, half way up the valley side. It’s 7.40 and on the way to being light now. If it was sunny/clear I’d be seeing the first smudges of pink in the sky. By 8.30 the Pike is in the sun, if there is any. If is doing some heavy lifting here, good luck!
Does Hebden actually get any direct sunlight between November and March?
We've had some beautiful sunrise skies over last week or two; properly dark at 7, nice dark blues and vivid pink starting around 7.30, properly light by 8.
Unfortunately if you're not local or staying locally then you're going to be out of bed at stupid o'clock to see sunrise up there.
Cloud had lifted enough for me to see the pike when I saw your post about 7.45 this morning. Conditions up there were vile around 9.30, visibility fine with glasses on but couldn't even stay on the bike side on to the wind, abandoned plan to head off the front and got blown back towards the col instead.
Thanks pacman and Hannah. Aiming to be up there before 7.30 for a brew! Met office claiming a day off the rain tomorrow...
Remember to post a picture. Good luck 🤞
Oh dear. I see daylight but no sun. There’s a giant grey cloud just where the sun should be 🙁
At least its not pissing down today.........yet.
There's sunshine and blue sky if you look hard enough
Success! No dramatic sunrise but we got up just before the dawn and had a great ride. The love tunnel was gushing!

Err.....what!
Thursday was lovely, icicles and cold waterfall shower a nice bonus whilst slowed down to spot best line out of the tunnel. Hadn't been down that way for a while, surprised out it how easily it goes now given the increased wear it's had of late.
Good effort anyway Matt, must have been cold and blowy up there this morning, glad it worked out well
Short video of the ride
Yea the water wasn't a problem!
Lovely - not as an early rise needed at this time of year. We did a dawn raid on Norland Moor during the summer of 2020 during the first lockdown and had to be up there for about 5.30. Was freezing cold but absolutely stunning...
