Hi all.
My wife wants some heated gloves for Xmas. Since she got an e-bike, she will use that to go to work in anything other than rain, it's only c. 2 miles but she finds her hands get cold about half way in. Just wondered if anyone has any experience/recommendations as am entirely unfamiliar with them.
These - https://www.amazon.co.uk/WEIVIOQ-Settings-Rechargeable-Electric-Touchscreen/dp/B09JW4SS25/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=Heated%2BCycling%2BGloves&qid=1668415590&sr=8-7&th=1 - are what she's looking at.
Thoughts?
Have you thought about pogies? Much cheaper than heated gloves and they don't run out of batteries! Even a simple neoprene set will do a great job of keeping the wind off, which has the biggest effect on hands staying warm in cold temps.
A mate has the silly expensive Sealskinz ones, and commutes all year round at silly o'clock. He has circulation issues and swears by them in winter.
I had a borrow of them one night last winter - if I was commuting daily through winter (12 miles each way) I'd be very tempted as a treat to myself, and I've commuted in the past at -8°.
I have some very expensive outdoor research gloves (Lucent) which are very good. I would however also recommend pogies as a cheaper solution that could also be considered that doesn't involve the hassle of charging etc.
There are plenty similar to the ones linked by the OP for a lot less. They all seem to use exactly the same design and battery whether you pat £30 or £130. I tried a few last year and decided they were all the same electronically but just the outer material differed. The Snow Deer ones were about the best I found and were better than the Sealskinz version. None of them stay massively warm in use and the claim that they run at 50C is frankly nonsense in all of them. However, they do take the chill off obv. The Outdoor Research ones are what I'd buy if I could justify the expense though. As it happens I stuck with the Sealskinz as I couldn't return them by the time I had decided cheaper ones would have been just as good.
Thanks peeps.
Have shown her the ^hotpogs and we've made a pact that if she doesn't like them i'll have them, and we'll look again at other options.
Pretty much a win win.
