HI all,

Looking to use a chest strap with my 530, I can see the Garmin run / tri / swim / pro models. Would the run model work? Any other manufacturers worth a look?

Not looking for anything fancy, just to record my HR on rides.

Cheers

I have a Garmin Dual and a cheaper Magene. They both work fine.

I've not long bought the pro model, I've gone through a couple of straps with broken pop studs on my wahoo tickr, the Garmin just works with no need to wet the contacts and no worry about the strap breaking (bought a replacement off Amazon but it was terrible).

Pick the one that has the features you need, the pro has running dynamics, plus Bluetooth, and swimming data storage.

The run would be fine for just riding.

I have a run one and a dual ant/bluetooth one both from Garmin. They both work perfectly. The run metrics from the running one actually did help my change my stride for the better. The dual one is handy for me because my Zwift laptop only has bluetooth. They both work fine with my Edge 530.

Any Ant+ one will do, I'm using one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/CooSpo-Monitor-Bluetooth-Waterproof-Compatible/dp/B07D4J5VDK/ref=sr_1_4

Lasted for 3+ yrs now and still going strong with at least twice weekly use. Cheaper, and in my limited experience longer lasting than a Garmin one.

I've found chest straps crap on bikes. Constantly dropping and regaining signal meaning lots of lost data (same strap worked find indoors). Currently use a Wahoo optical on forearm. This is a lot more stable.

I've got the dual Garmin one which I use with my 530 and Fenix. I don't have to do anything to change between devices, it just works reliably.

I'd avoid Polar, from my experience they have a habit of removing support for older models.

I might be lucky, but my workplace has a MyZone scheme, so their HRM cost me £30 ish.... Brilliant piece of kit and works well with every device I use.

I use the run HRM chest strap with my 530 with no issues.

Another Garmin Dual here - use with a 520+ and HP laptop for Zwift. Although Bluetooth support with Zwift on Windows 11 is crap so I had to buy an Ant+ USB dongle after I 'upgraded' to Win11.

I have an ant+ garmin strap that came with a forerunner watch years back but also bought a decathlon one so that I could use direct with phone via Bluetooth- before strava kicked that off.
The decathlon one works as well as the garmin as far as I can tell

Both have a habit of losing signal while riding. Might be my dad bod that is the problem though!

My Wahoo Tickr seems to connect, work, and record much more reliably than my Garmin HR strap ever did - and thats connecting to a Garmin GPS too!

I have an Apple Watch and use a NPE Heartbeatz to broadcast my heartbeat data out to my Garmin. Can also be used with many other Bluetooth devices such as a treadmill, smartbike, etc

The basic Garmin one that came with my head unit has always worked fine for me.
