Evening ... got a set of rollers and a Polar HT7 HRM watch & strap.
I used to use a spinning bike at the gym a while ago and you could connect to it with the chest strap, select a ride time / ride type then you'd follow a program on the screen as to what zones to keep your HR in.
Are there any Apps for the phone / laptop that would do this?
I've heard of the Sufferfest videos, but to be honest I've no idea what you need for it to work.
I'm not exactly a techy person .... so be nice

Cheers

I am not quite sure what exactly your are trying to do. I used to to connect the H7 to the Polar Beat app on my Android phone while running so I could check which zone I was in and my pace etc. That should work on rollers also. Obviously the speed part wouldn't work because it works on the phone GPS and you are not going anywhere on the rollers.

I think the H7 is compatible with other apps such as Strave and Runkeeper but I've never used those.

Trainerroad might be the thing for you - have a look at theor website to see if what you have is compatible. Works on laptops, tablets & phones but might need a speed/cadence sensor to work as well.

Its actually a FT7 (sorry)
The screen on the spinning bike used to display programs to follow (similar to pic below), you entered a workout time then followed the program on the screen which told you where to keep your HR.

Could you get something like this on your phone?
Hope that makes more sense.

Trainerroad is what you want. In addition to your HRM you will need an ANT+ dongle like this so your laptop can read the signal from the HR strap, and a wheel/cadence sensor which is ANT+ compatible so the computer knows how fast you are going. You will also need a compatible trainer - which is pretty much all of them these days. I also recommend a female/male USB extension cable for the ANT+ dongle, the closer it is to the speed sensor the better it seems to work.

The Polar HRM strap doesn't use Ant+, so won't work with an Ant+ dongle.
If you have an older model of Polar strap, it uses Polar's own protocol. I don't think there's any way of connecting this to a phone.

Easiest option would be to buy a heart rate sensor that uses Bluetooth Smart. ie a newer model of Polar strap, or some other brand.

I didn't realise Polar wasn't ANT+. So if he was buying all new bits (HRM, speed sensor and dongle) why would you go for BT rather than ANT?

Most modern phones or tablets have Bluetooth Smart built in, so no need to add a dongle. There are a few phones that have Ant+ built in, but its pretty rare (eg some of the newer Samsung Galaxy etc).

Or best would be to get a heart rate strap that transmits both Ant+ and Bluetooth Smart, then you have more options for connecting it to other devices.
