I had a new Integrated bearing put into my Canyon nerve by the LBS the other day. Had a quick 5 minute ride on It and It seemed fine but noticed the bars were slightly out of line with the front wheel.
I loosened the stem bolts and adjusted the bars and stuck the bike back in the shed. Anyhoo tonight I stuck some new jockey wheels on It and took It round the block and noticed a fair bit of play in the headset.
I've loosend the stem bolts then tightened the top cap but there is still some slight movement. Im concious of not over tightening the top cap as have snapped a bolt before , So whats the procedure ?. Tighten bit by bit ? , If the stem bolts are loose Am I likely to still snap the top cap bolt.?
YOu are doing it right, sometimes you need to smack the front wheel off the ground with it loose to free it up.
Thanks Al , I'll give It a go . 🙂
Worth making sure that the top cap is not bottoming out on the top of the steerer stopping it from getting enough pre-load on the bearings.
