I'm putting a Surly Krampus fork on my 29er (EC44 Lower, ZS44 Upper)

The current bouncy fork is tapered 1.5-1 1/8, the new fork is straight 1 1/8" so if I want to keep the headset for easy swapping (I do) then I need a reducer.

Does the reducer brand have to match the headset brand, or do they all have the same dimensions?

Are all crown reducers created equal?

They're all pretty much the same thing, so you should be ok.

Depends what type, Hope one goes on the fork with a crown setting tool or makeshift tools then the crown race slots on top if it's a split version otherwise it's tooltime again, that's a two piece option, the second is a split crown reducer from the likes of nukeproof or superstar that pops on a 1 1/8 steerer without tools and slots into 1.5 headset, just make sure the bearing internal degree 36 or 45 matches the crown race.

Ok - I've ordered the Hope one, as if I ever replace the headset I'll probably buy Hope 🙂

Will see if I can make it fit...

It's a bastard to fit but from what I understand it's safe enough to cut a slit in it, there was another topic at one point, I think @scotroutes had one?

I've found the Hope one easy to fit and remove because it's quite big so you have plenty to hit without going near the fork crown or steerer
