Hi there
Just built up a bike from my bits added to a new frame after fitting the forks there seems to be some movement in the top bearing had new bottom bearing and the top one which came with the frame also looks new any ideas ?

not enough spacers too let the top cap preload the bearings?

wrong crown race?

missing headset component - sounds like a mix and match job - have you got all the bits for the top part?

No the bearings where still in the frame but with no top cap or spacers

have you got the compression ring etc? there can be a spacer(s) between the compression ring and seal/cover too - not havign it/them will stop the headset pre-loading correctly.

... and make sure you preload the headset using the topcap bolt BEFORE you tighten the stem onto the steerer

(if the head tube of the new frame is shorter than the old one you may need an extra spacer or two either above or below the stem as wwaswas says, to make sure that the topcap is able to preload the system)
