My 2018 Capra came with a ascros headset where the bearings cannot be removed and just my luck after a few wet rides they were shot. So I had a new headset fit but now the lower bearing wont fit into the cup, the lad who fit it says the head tube probably needs reaming because theres too much pressure on the cup but should that be the case on a 4 month old bike? I've taken it to another shop for a second opinion and they said it could be a bodged install thats deformed the cup but that fact the headset that came in the bike came with no removable bearings makes me wonder. Anyone else had similar issues before?
I've order another lower cup and bearing from CRC.
Are you maybe trying to fit a 56mm cup in a 55mm frame?
I believe both exist as "standards"
Anyway, sack the mechanic reaming a headtube that already fits a specific headset standard just because he sold you the wrong part is beyond shoddy...
Its a ACROS AZX-203 and it was replaced with a ZS44/ZS56 so I think it was the correct headset as far as I can tell
I've also just measured the cup that was removed and it is 56mm
Sounds like the 'lad' is the one that needs reaming.
Sounds reasonable to me. I've seen the same when fitting certain headsets to certain frames. Bang the headset out again and fit with the bearing in this time if I was you. It will get a bit slacker with each fitting 😉
