You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I'm confused, easily done these days, but just got a bike that has a 1.5in headtube and has a Cane Creek Double XC headset with 1 1/8th steerer forks, so I thought can I fit 1.5 steerer forks onto it, surely it would be just a case of a new bottom race and top cap to accommodate the 1.5in steerer, is it as simple as that? I can't find any info googleing or spare parts for this headset. Would I need to fit a completely new headset for 1.5in forks? Or, is there a headset that can do this - swith between 1 1/8th and 1.5 just by changing the top and bottom bits?

I dont know if this is the same one as yours? it seems you can change some parts around.
highclimber - Yep, that's the headset, thanks for finding that, so looks like you can just change the top and bottom bits to fit the steerers, just need to find where to get the parts now. The bike's got boxxers on so thinking of putting on some shorter 160mm singlecrown forks as there's some good deals on 1.5in forks around and saving the boxxers for trips to the alps 😀
Ah, google comes up with Extra UK as the distriutors, I'll contact them.
chances are that CRC have the parts you need.
I did look on CRC, typed in 'cane creek' into the search but couldn't find the parts and looking on cane creeks website I can't find it on there either, think they might not do this headset anymore or now call it something else, so might not be able to get the part?
So, if anyone knows of another headset that can easily change between 1 1/8th and 1.5 I'd appreciate it as I might have to buy and fit a new one?
surely its just some spacers and a new set of bearings which you should be able to get from any bearing engineers if you have the dimensions (i did this for my wheels) and the shims shouldn't be too hard to get hold of either.
