Hi
A mechanic and rider I know recommended that I change the angle set on my Giant Trance 2015 - he said it would make a big difference for downhill segments and suggested getting one from Works Components,
I hadn't thought about doing this before but it sounds like a great idea - although I do also enjoy riding up hill with the bike - does anyone have any experience or advice and know which model I need for the Trance? Plus should I go for 1.5 degrees or 2?
Thanks!

Do you use a 140mm or 160mm fork? With a 160mm the trance has a 66 ha. Plenty slack for majority of UK riding (and lots elsewhere). If you ride lots of flat out fast dh stuff, a 1deg angleset might be an option.

I have a -1 degree angle set in my Trance, gives me a 66 degree head angle when running a 140mm fork, with a 150mm fork the HA is 65. Slows up the steering a little and increases the wheelbase, making the bike better on the downs with no noticable downside on the ups.

The headset from Workscomponents you need is a EC44/ZS56. (Normally the trance takes a ZS44/ZS56)

Thanks a lot, the fork is 140mm. I am struggling with the dh sections but most of that is inexperience, lack of technical experience and nerves!
Also, a guy in a local Giant retailer seemed to think that the angleset would not be compatible with the Giant Trance due to its oversized top tube - I have the 2015 model - does anyone know if that is the case?

I think the 2015 Giant bikes come with OD steerers (basically a normal tapered steerer), the 2014 models had the oversized OD2 steerers. My 2015 Anthem is OD not OD2. Easy enough to check, just measure the top of the steerer where the stem clamps 1.25" = OD2, 1.125" = OD = normal tapered steerer.
