Following from the bar mounted light thread, after Tuesday nights ride, I am looking for a head torch ...

Ideally rechargable

and a helmet mount that allows it to pop out on impact ....

I would have gone C and B Seen ... but

Any experiences or recommendations... ?

If you factor in the re-sale value, reckon I'll be able to shift my MK9 joystick for close to £50/£60. Purchase for £110 3 years ago so not bad.

EDIT: Nice list of options here;  http://www.torchythebatteryboy.com/p/bike-light-database.html

Having baulked at exposure prices, I have gone for an led lenser P7R, 1000 lumen torch, but will need to find a mount. Haven’t got it yet, but hopefully will do what I want, £64, reputable brand. We’ll see.......

I used my Lezyne MicroDrive on a night race -  it is small and light enough to not notice. The clamp stretched round the helmet vent with the light rotated at 90deg. Worked well. Like - this but an older model I presume.

Also, what about the £50 Bikehut light there was a thread about?

I use a Lezyne macrodrive duo for head-mounted light. Ticks every box in the OP. Decent beam spread, good battery life and the mount simultaneously holds it firm whilst allowing it to pop out easily if required.

Zanflare F1. Add an 18650 battery and a helmet mount. I just use velcro to mount mine. Works very well.

The Halfords 1600lm unit is big, but it's lighter than a much smaller Evolva/Nitenumen X8 lamp

I just posted in its dedicated thread - anyway I've tried the big halfords 1600 light as a helmet light, and it's fine.  not too heavy.  just looks massive.  Using halfords own adapter, it mounts gopro style light-to-mount (so screw through) and velcro mount-to-helmet, so it can't pop out on impact.  But if you mount it differently, don't write it off because of the weight, at least without trying it.

Ultrafire WF-501b with an Evans cycles fwe helmet mount. Battery and charger from torchy. Probably going to cost about £30 total.

Re the Halfords light ... I wouldn't write it off for weight.

I would be more concerned about it not popping off and the Michael Schmacher effect

The Bell Super 2/3r lids have a pop-off mount.  I also have a length of string attaching the lamp to the back of the helmet so if it does pop off it doesn't get lost.

Decent quality headtorch with good output but not exposure prices.

Used previous gen exposure light .

I tried the Fluxient U2 mini for a while, single 18650 flashlight sold by Torchy. I found it to heavy and in the end went for separate light and battery pack.

I went with this -
http://kaidomain.com/bike-lights-and-bike-accessories/Bike-Lights/BL2s-2-x-Cree-XM-L2-U3-White-6500K-2-Groups-of-2-to-3-Mode-2200-Lumens-Bike-Light

Bought a GoPro adapter for it off eBay and a battery pack off Torchy.

I've just bought one of the Chilli-Tech 800 lumen capsules. They're on offer at £22 if you go via their FB page. Whether it is any good or not remains to be seen. 190g and looks quite secure on the lid in their videos.

I’ve tried a few head torch type lights (Torchy tc12 and a Brite r unit with a separate battery)  and have now settled on a Moon Vortex Pro. Plenty of lumens and a really small all in one unit. Moon make a go pro mount for about a fiver and I used a stick on go pro base to attach to my helmet.

Rock solid / not heavy / plenty of light / lasts well battery wise.

The 15 quid Aldi light I got last week is incredible, no idea of burn times yet, but by Christ it's bright. The rear is bloody blinding at full power too.

What's up with C and B Seen these days?

I use one of their cheapy torches which fits into a Joystick helmet mount; the mount cost more than the bloody torch! It's plenty bright enough and has a good burn time.

The olight s1r is only 1000 lumens for a couple minutes (turbo mode that then switches down to protect against overheating) then drops to a mediocre 300 which isn't much cop

Just ordered a C & B seen 1900 head torch for £55 posted. Well impressed with the bar version I purchased last month and that turned up with no problems so hopefully all will be ok.

I’ve not tried the Moon Meteor X I have got as a head torch tbh - although it wasn’t cheaper enough for me to consider it for that purpose. I mostly use it as a flasher on my commuter as I picked it up pretty cheap.

Note on the people banging on about exposure that the op specifically stated they didn’t want to spend exposure money. Although no doubt the joystick is better than a moon vortex pro it’s not significant vs the cost difference!

If £45 is too much there is also a Moon Vortex (not pro) which I picked up recently for £28. Same body and presumably the same battery but less lumens. Still bright though and just as solid.
