Anybody else a big fan of head badges? I really like them and to me a bike just looks wrong or cheap without one. Always liked the Singular, Stanton and Ragley with Swarf being my personal favourites. I know I’m a sad, middle aged man 😀 but part of my brain tries to trick me in to thinking a bike isn’t a viable purchase option if it isn’t wearing a nice head badge.

Hit me with your favourites. Pictures welcomed.

Totally agree. It is like the manufacturer can’t be arsed if they don’t have a proper one. What else have they scrimped on 🧐

Loving the weird cat one

Definitely allowed to post your own!

Looks like we have similar thinking. Silver soldered stainless, powder / paint over everything then polish off?

Badges or frames? The orange frame is fairly recent on last thing you made thread.

Sort of custom.

At respray time, I couldn't find old dekerf decals and didn't like the new ones, so thought I'd go classy on the paint and headtube badge and leave the frame otherwise bare. I didn't even put the magic Reynolds sticker on!

Couldn't only find a tiny image file for the logo, so vector mapped it, tidied it up in photoshop, gave it a border and sent it to the aforementioned Geoff Moorhouse.

Got it done in Pewter because the original plan was to copper plate it and polish the logo back to pewter, leaving a copper background which would gradually oxidise.

It's coloured in black with a felt tip for now... (duration of now = 6 years and counting. might still do the copper plating at some point. maybe)

Some lovely examples above.

Below are some I picked up at a cycle jumble many years ago - some guy had a chest full of them. BITD all the old makers had great badges of course.

I seem to be the only one who doesn't care about head badges at all?

(Not sure which of my bikes have proper ones and which don't. The Intense does but not sure about the others.)

It’s just that little bit of extra thought. A nice finishing touch or chance to add a bit of artwork.

Bikes just seem half arsed without one to me. Wouldn’t stop me from buying a bike, but they look better with one. Nothing is better than a painted logo or model number though. That’s just an utter cop out.

DezB - that tree badge is brilliant.

Lovely. Just waiting on the latest.

Some nice handiwork there chaps.

Just expressed interest of changing standard Puffing headbadge onto something more personalized to SWMBO and got initial positive respond.

So maybe in not so distant future I'll be knocking to Geoff's virtual door once again 🙂

Cheers!
I.

Not sure if these should count, being subtractive rather than additive. Does it matter?

I like it though, and the bike's a little trooper.

Biased as a badger, but even if we hadn't designed them, I love Talon's head badges.

Big dibs to Hossa Design for doing the hard bit in actually making & bending them - they look superb in the flesh.
