Attended for at least the last eight years but not going this year mainly because I have to work Saturday (but have attended in the past when I have worked Saturday), but the charge for camping(parking a van) was IMHO a bit steep. Could understand the rise in entry price but when you stick in the diesel costs and camping it turns into an expensive weekend 🙁
Members of the Boggies that usually go have decided against it except for two but they have a family members cabin to stay in nearby.
Hopefully they will bin the camping charge next year!

If you can stay in your van why not just go and park in a nearby layby or some other out of the way place for free?

On the flip side, 4 of us are going together, staying 2 nights - works out at £2.50pp per night - doubt you'd find a campsite much cheaper than that, and that includes showers which are normally £2 at the sports centre

The Dyfi is all about the vibe the riding is ok so being close to the Marquee for the drinking and dancing shenanigans 🙂

Dynamic if it was 2.50 per person per night including freezing showers fair enough it would cost me a fiver but as it stands its 20!

So you're not going for the sake of 20 quid, which covers the cost of 3 nights camping ?

That's about 8 pints of that cheap p1ss ale you drink 🙂

I thought the 20 quid flat rate was pretty reasonable.

I've done it 11 or 12 times of the last 15 years. I'm not doing it this year as I don't fancy the 5 hour drive, so I'm doing the PMBA enduro in Grizedale instead. Higher entry fee doesn't cover the cost of diesel saved, but change is as a good as a rest, right.

It didn't appear to be sold out the other day. Maybe the extra cost has reduced demand?

I must admit that I was a bit surprised by the new camping charge -and had overlooked it until the event info email arrived.

I briefly considered bivvying out, but then just paid for the camping for the ease.

20 quid for 3 nights camping isn't bad, is it?

Price jump was just a bit too much this year, understand stuff costs more, but looked like trying to maximise capacity and revenue on a corporate model. Really couldn't see what extra we would be paying for. Most of our group have been riding them since the early days, but this looks like the first that none of us have even bothered to look at getting places.

Edit: £20 not so great if you are just staying one night.

I'd pay £100 if they could do something about the bloody weather. It looks like it might be biblical rain again...Bad 2 years ago, worse last year....Any deals on bottom brackets and brake pads?.

Eh? What fork-cast are you looking at? Given the recent weather history, it looks like the trails will be dry-ish.

My alarm has a habit of going wrong when the weather is poor mate, or if I've drank too much the night before 😳

Nah, I thought it was a bit steep to be honest, coupled with the rise in entry price I thought the new organisers were just cashing in to be honest.

Did it sell out this year?

Reckon there was less than recent years, but that's a good thing. I think they'd been letting too many enter & it was getting overcrowded ...

It was a good ride, but I now realise that it is more fun in the wet.

A field full of 3-5k bikes, Audis and VW T5s, and people complain about a 20 quid camping charge????

Yes it seemed quieter this year, at least on the campsite. Probably no bad thing considering the state of the portaloos last year.

Well, five or six.

...but the charge for camping(parking a van) was IMHO a bit steep.

This.

Could understand the rise in entry price but when you stick in the diesel costs and camping it turns into an expensive weekend

And this.

It was quite the hike from previous years and more entries open; I don't begrudge the organisers it one bit because it's a great event (and I've help organise MTB events, and appreciate the utter headache that it is), but it's enough of a price hike and increase in rider traffic to dissuade me from entering.

Try drinking the cheap ale and you'll have the money for the camping. If the 20 quid covers the 3 nights then it is an utter bargain...

How much was the camping previously and how much is it now? (20 quid is mentioned way up the top, but is that correct?)

The cost of running stuff has increased quite a lot so it may no longer be possible to do the camping for cheap as the costs aren't being covered.

The camping used to be free with the ticket price... Some people just expect everything for free all the time. I've done 8 or 9 of them too & never camped, it never bothered me that I was helping pay for other peoples camping facilities that I wasn't using 😀

It was £65 to park a van in the comedy festival field next door.

But I bet you parked your car for free and used the toilets emac 🙂
The campers IMHO set the atmosphere for the Dyfi which seemed to attract families to the event, drinking and eating at the Marquee and going into the town itself instead of just turning up on the day and riding some natural trails that has signage 🙂 but hay ho as long as they fund raise enough its all good.

No need for me to post up telling everyone how tight you are Rich.
They already know. 😀
Joking aside we were talking to Tegid on the Wednesday before the event and he was telling us about how much more it's costing them to run the event now.
One of the farmers who's land the event crosses has sold half of the land, so now they have to pay two people for the same access.
The real stinger is the farmer has "sold" the land to his brother...
