Mine wasn't but the good one was. Not good. In contrast Wiggle published my 1* bad review followed up with a sensible and polite company line, ie "really sorry you did not like this product...passing comments on etc..'.

I use all the various big boys online but naively felt they would not filter out the bad reviews. Is it just evans who act dishonestly like this? I have no issues with their service BTW.

Nearly all companies moderate their reviews in this way unfortunately. If you have a bad review I'd suggest that you leave it on an independent review site and mention that they didn't publish it on their site.

Wiggle sound like they have the correct approach, but I'd imagine there is still some moderation going on.

Yep, I had a one star review put up for some tyre sealant that didn't actually seal, although perhaps this was because I directed people to the more expensive alternative

I've had it a couple of times (edit:not with Evans though), complained and then been allowed to post a reworded review. I think there is definitely a way of writing a bad review the doesn't completely slate the product but points out where it may not work as well as expected 🙄 . However after a while when you see a product with no 1* ratings and lots of 3's you start to think something may be going on

Here is the review (MaxSE) so others can judge, Wiggle published it in full:

Pretty damning I guess but I wanted to balance the endless other 'pro' reviews, seems Evans have their own views on 'balance' though.

Seems more a review about whether they fit your particular feet rather than an appraisal of the product itself. There are plenty of shoe brands in which I can't find a comfortable size. The 'golf shoe' appearance is a matter of personal aesthetics too.

All good reasons why you might not like them, but do they make them deserving of a 1* review? I was expecting something along the lines of 'they leaked' or 'they fell apart after one ride', not 'they didn't fit me'.

I wouldn't have said it was your job to 'balance' glowing reviews.

The reasons Evans have rejected it are another matter though. But perhaps they think that 1* is too harsh for the problems you've had with them.

Yep - this is very usual with Evans. Happened to me several times so I don't bother anymore

martinehutch; fair points you make (there was perhaps a touch of the '...crikey, I'm fed up trying on endless roadie shoes that don't fit'...) but in defence I would say though that many reviews for shoes point out how wonderfully they fit their particular feet so when they don't it should be mentioned - my feet aren't that odd IMHO. And asthetics are always a factor of any product's appeal so fair to mention that too, the weight/clumpiness/fixture short falls were all legitimate observations.

I appreciate all opinions are different of course. 🙂 Perhaps it's getting away from the overall issue though that these large powerful online retailers should treat their buyers as grown ups and enable them to make informed decisions on a range of opinions, the end consumer will always ignore the odd rash review (like mine perhaps...) if the overall balance is fair.

Depends what you mean by bad. I've put a few on saying I've been disappointed by stuff and what's wrong with it. I haven't felt the need yet to give 1 star and "dont buy dis its sh%t didnt fit me" but if I did I wouldn't be all that surprised if it never appeared.

Agree with martinhutch on the shoe review too. If I were Wiggle, I might be thinking that while they might not fit you they apparently fit plenty of other people- so you could say that about everything. And they are indeed pretty fugly, but you could see that before you ordered them.

Personally after that I'm none the wiser on those shoes. I know they didn't fit you and you didn't like the look, but neither of those things help me out at all.

Well, fair play to Evans. It seems they've made me eat my words. Just got an email and they have published my less than glowing review of the mrp chain guide component...

I am getting sick of replacing these bits. They are just not strong enough for the task, but if you don't want to shell out for a ridiculously priced chain device, then you have to replace these. I've broken two now. You don't even get a new jockey wheel with them. Overpriced and underperforming, however sadly necessary.

I wrote one for a John Lewis freezer. Never got published, or even followed up on. Which was surprising, as given their legendary customer service, you'd have thought they would want to know why someone could be so vitriolic about a freezer.

John Lewis online are a shower of shite, tho.
