You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
In our small group of riders we have had two frame snaps in the last 6 days while out riding

Is this just a chance event or should we make a sacrifice to the MTB gods to stop this happening again (before, god forbid, it happens to my frame)?
The only way to fix this is to find someone who commutes on a fixie but is never seen riding it.
And burn their bike.

I was going to throw an Apollo into a volcano but that sounds easier
Is that a Rose?
BMC by the looks of the BMC logo....
Looks like you've been appeasing the pie gods already.....
Aaaaaahhhhhh the rocker shazbot..... 😳 thanks Fizzicist
Rorschach - They are all breaks near on on the seat post and we do like pies, but I fail to see where these two facts coincide
Wook/Fizzi, first one is a Giant Anthem 29er, the second a BMC Speedfox. Know two other friends here who have both experienced cracks on their BMC Speedfox seat tubes (below the top tube) in the last 6 month, maybe there is a production or design problem?
maybe there is a production or design problem?
Sounds more rational than gods existing...
But to be sure invade another country and burn their bikes
See that's why I'll never buy a carbon frame, the way it fails suddenly and snaps clean in half without warning. You'd never get that with a steel or alum............ Erm, hang on a minute....
Re the BMC failure, I read a review of the BMC Trailfox which found a fault with the seatstay bridge bottoming out on the back of the seat tube, causing knocking on big hits. I think BMC know about the problem. Your Speedfox looks to be a similar design so might be worth checking for any impact damage or cracking which could have contributed to the failure? Just an idea hope they get it sorted.

The article was in mbr, and the bike in the picture says trailfox TF01 on the seat stays.
The FS bike pictured is an abomination in the eyes of Nature; the beholder can see that the stresses on the frame are unnatural and go against the laws of physics. Stick to a traditional two-triangle frame as revealed to mankind and thou shalt ride unto the kingdom of Heaven.
globalti, I thought that at first, but your missing something, the seatube is conventional in its design & angle but it has snapped, thats why its at that jaunty angle.
Eh? The pivot thingy, which has about a 2:1 leverage, is attached to the seat tube with its fulcrum half way down the length of the tube, which has snapped forwards, bending and breaking the top tube just forward of the brace the manufacturer so thoughtfully added. To add to the stress the long seatpost is twisting the unbraced seat tube back in a rearwards rotational direction.
Doesn't look conventional to me!
A friend of mine had a 1st gen Boardman FSer snap in exactly the same place as that BMC a few weeks ago.
It's a terrible design, how did the designer ever think it would work?
Im pretty sure BMC did a recall according to the magazine.
Nope Gods do exist, you need to sacrifice something.
A pie.
