Isn't it only real news if he doesn't win?

You have, but it seems to be a discussion without a point.

If a british rider had just completed an unprecidented perfect series, I'd wager the thread would be 3 pages long by now!

Maybe if he goes on to win in Cairns in a couple of weeks then there'll be more acknowledgement?

In a class of his own at the moment.
Would of been good to see the point when he dropped Tempier though, and a shame Fumic had the mechanical early on.

Can't see anyone beating him in Cairns either!

I caught up with it last night on RB TV.
Impressive.
I also wondered how much interest a started thread might get on a MTB forum website hence the lack of comment to start.

Bit silly really how many wins he has in a row. Good to see Absolon back, hopefully it will be a race in Cairns.

Sadly his domination has killed mens xco for me now. Don't bother watch anymore.
The women's however was excellent this year with different riders coming into condition at different parts of the season.

Anyone have a good explanation for the extreme fluctuations in form that we've seen in the women's for the last couple of years?

Neff is the most extreme example, but Langvad is another (possibly related to her studies), Dahle and of course Annie Last as well. It's not uncommon to go from winning, to outside the top10 in adjacent races separated only by a couple of weeks.

Contrast that to the men's, where there's a lot more consistancy, not just from El Nino, but also further down the field.

Perhaps don't read threads about xc racing the day after the event if you don't want to know the result?

Apart from Nino there is a lot of fluctuations in the men's.
Like the woman do not know why. Other than course and conditions suit different riders and abilities. Nino is a huge exception to this .... excels in everything!

Thanks for the spoiler advice.

I think Nino is in a class of his own TBH. Bit like the Schumacher of XCO.

I don't find him boring though, he is a skillfull rider that i think is a pleasure to watch in action.

Just caught up on the ladies. Such a shame for Miss Last .... she was up there until the puncture (yes biased I know but she was up there)

Not totally he is awesome on modern courses but no match for Absolon on older style courses with long uphills.

No one questioned Rachel Atherton after her clean sweep?

Yeah but XC is basically road riding on grass 😉 full of cheats and druggies...

If the UK managed to get riders into every race of the year most would be wondering what changed at BC given the UK currently sits behind Lesotho who recieved a large share of funding via crownfunding from Sufferfest, meaning their leading male rider could quit his 6 day/week job and focus on training, he also got a bike worthy of his ranking for the first time in Rio.

There is something wrong at the heart of things in BC when it comes to XC, the discapline it appears to have most control over is performing the worst.

No questions Annie Last either. Top performing xc racer. One hopes that all testing is done and all racers are clean. If not you hope the testers and the testing will find them.

I think BC is just ignorant of mountain biking in general, downhill has found a successful generation despite of them. To be honest it looks like the wheels are now falling of the whole sports uk ethos, funding elitism at the expense of encouraging grass roots and progression from there.

The reason he has managed it this year has been down Absalon and Kulhavy being way off the pace. I would expect both of them to usually snipe at least a round off him and make the other rounds a bit more competetive and interesting.

I think maybe in the next few years we'll see some good competition. Carod (23), Forster (24), Cooper (23) and Sarrou (25) should all be able to get quite a bit faster. Most of the rest of the regular top ten riders are all similar age or older than Nino. i.e they've hit their XC racing peak.

That Van der Poel dude is just having a flutter - I reckon he'll go back to CX.

I enjoyed the last lap of that race - Absalon absolutely destroying that last climb - pretty impressive!
