New air spring with much bigger negative chamber available aftermarket for all RS 35mm forks.

And quite reasonably priced...

not really much of an increase though when you consider how small the negative chamber is to start with.  luftkappe is significantly more than that.

Yes, but the new piston head is riveted in, so you won't be able to (easily) swap it anymore.

New coil fork on the way by the looks of it? Although an MY18 coil doesn't exist yet? If not it's a pretty good way of advertising that the best air spring to date, supposedly, still isn't very close to a coil.  Interesting that a coil still has as much bottom out resistance as a solo air spring with two tokens!

Must mean a modified 2018 Lyrik with coil conversion?

New curve looks pretty close to me.

Still doesn't have the same midstroke support does it? And if you're that bothered about the friction from a seal head, why not just get rid of it all together? It's going to have 100 percent less friction that the old seal head 😀

All this for a few hundred g of weight in what is essentially a freeride fork is beyond me.

Why isn't the coil a straight line?  Where does the rate change come from?

Air in the lower and there is some ramp up in closed damper as well, from the rubber bladder - you could get more if they pressurised the bladder.

The MRP coils adjustable bottom out feature, is said to work based on the air that is naturally found in the lower getting compressed.

I was really expecting them to bring out a coil Lyrik.

Wouldn't be surprised if they do.

Nor me, they are a lot less sodding hassle. Especially the bleed ports that block up.

That's annoying, I've just spent £65 on a Luftkappe...

I want a red fork, Judy DHs (red) and SLs (yellow) were the forks of my dreams when I started mountain biking.

Ditto, I have one fitted to an air spring next to my desk and changing it over this week.

Will be interesting to see what Mr Vorsprung has to say on the new RS bits, he's usually very honest.

Because there's still an air volume trapped above the spring/oil bath in the lowers.

The only exception to this was 90s Pace forks that had a breather hole. Can't imagine it kept the crap out very well.

£65 vs. "RockShox's new air spring is backwards compatible... with an asking price of $42". For that you also get the improved aluminum seal head.

the new air spring also provides more negative spring volume – 42% more in the Lyrik, and 36% more in the Pike

So how much more % is the Luftkappe?

Is this new air spring part available to buy anywhere yet?

And will it include the shaft part to swap over to change travel like the old type?

(I'm just about to buy a new shaft to change the travel of a new RS fork (2018 not 2019)

Just put a coil in it and then for the next 5 years, you can rest easy knowing that anything RS puts out will be worse than your modification and so you won't have to worry about buying new crap every year.

Honda bought into the Showa air forks for their MX bikes (which are a darn sight better than what we have in MTB) and then they abandoned them. Because they are garbage.

Sorry no, but can you come back and let us know when you've found out?

Will this work on a 2014 pike ?

"All 35mm forks" suggests so.

blah blah coil blah blah RS blah blah showa

Why have you changed your username TomW?

The answer is "No" (to the title question, that is), right from the horse's mouth (FAQ at the bottom of the page).

l.e. On second look, the FAQ refers to MY2018, not the newly announced MY2019. D'oh!

I was looking into how Rockshox have achieved the bigger volume without the extender piston arrangement that luftkappe use...

It seems they have put a hole through the air shaft in the region of the negative spring to utilise the volume inside the hollow shaft.

Clever

but it does beg the question...

Cant I just drill a hole in my existing air spring?

Yep, there is a guy on a Swedish forum who did just that ages ago. Says it works fine. Just a little ptfe tape on the bolt at the bottom to make sure it's sealed. He has a couple of forks like that now.

@raybanwomle Showa air forks are garbage but the wp aer 48s on my ktm are as good as the kyb sss I had on my yam which everyone raves about. Cool thing is you drop 10psi out of them and they’re a decent enduro fork to.

Here.

There's another thread where he gives more detail, but I can't seem to find it again just now.

cha****ng I have spoken to TF tuned. They reckon a month or two for parts to become available aftermarket but could not confirm parts needed to convert travel and upgrade at this time as there are no exploded diagrams.

hope this helps.

That's a wonderfully elegant and simple mod to make the neg air bigger.

I did it today on my MY15 pikes and it does make a difference to the small bump compliance.

It's clearly not going to give as much volume as the luftkappe, but for free, I'll take it.

I assume the luftkappe gives more of the same.
