Just ordered a rake of XT 8000 stuff from Evans and CRC, amongst it I've the following coming.

Ordered this crankset http://www.evanscycles.com/products/shimano/xt-m8000-single-142mm-crankset-without-chainring-ec116575?country=GB&currency=GBP&esvt=1480-GOUKE923668&esvq=&esvadt=999999-0-35122-1&esvcrea=61235660576&esvplace=&esvd=m&esvaid=50080&gclid=Cj0KEQiA-NqyBRC905irsrLr-LUBEiQAWJFYTtCkf-qtIW24agCGdwmEWfow89rZ19Danaqeq1oflSMaAqus8P8HAQ

And this chainring http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/mobile/oneup-components-narrow-wide-xt-m8000-chainring/rp-prod141757

There's talk in the Qs & As on the Evans website that makes it sound like its a direct mount crank? Will the two work together?

Have I dropped a bollock?

Cheers.

The faq on the evans site contradicts itself as well, saying they are direct mount and then stateing the BCD, they will work fine as the have a BCD (albeit offset) details from Shimano http://bike.shimano.com/content/sac-bike/en/home/components11/mountain/deore-xt-m8000/fc-m8000-1.html

and heres a pic of a M8000 chainring showing bolt holes (Evans appear to not know what they are selling)

Thanks, that's what's confused my tiny mind.

Also it's titled as a 142mm crank but in the description it states it will run both a 135 and 142 rear end. I have a 135 rear end so now I'm totally confused.

it will be fine, they also do a chainset with a 53.4mm chainline for148mm rear ends but you've ordered the standard one so it will work fine with 135mm and 142mm rear ends.

Cheers spev, much appreciated.

Will it be glaringly obvious if l somehow end up with the 148 crank?

As has been said it isn't a direct mount . I got one and was not too happy because I thought I would run a single specific crankset but the XT8000 one has holes for double setup . I might as well have just used my existing XT double chainset with a single ring .

The 148 version should be marked M8000-B1. If yours isn't it will be the right one.

chainline will be off slightly but i suspect it will be ok, possible extra rubbing at one end of the cassette, looking at what you've ordered though you have ordered the correct one.

The chainline on the current 1x standard crank and the boost (148) crank is about the same, so to be honest dont sweat it! Its not going to make much difference. If you run a threaded BB then I would swap a spacer from the drive to non drive side to counter act the somewhat outboard chainline.

Thanks all, feel better now!

From what I've read the M8000 single and double are the same crank. Will check for B1 when it arrives and hopefully I won't find it.
