As above, had a sticky piston, tried to clean it up and free it (gently).
Next thing I've got brake fluid dripping from under the hoods!!
What have I done?
Gutted.

Probably not, I’ve done the same in the past with SLX. By any chance have they been bled with the pads still in the caliper before? If there is a bit too much fluid in the system it will come out via the reservoir when you shove the pistons back. Good chance they won’t even need a bleed, but it made me panic when I did it too!

Depends - there is a pressure release diaphragm in the lever that can release fluid if over-pressured, but it depends on whether it seals back OK or there is permanent damage. Does the brake continues to leak fluid?

As above there is a tiny hole in the diaphragm that allows fluid to allow fluid out if there is too much pressure in the system or that is my understanding.

Where is the fluid coming from exactly.? If it is said diaphragm and it is damaged then Shimano list them as a spare and are replaceable.

Doubtful, I did it to my XTR M9100 brakes, slightly over filled them, bit of oil came out of the lever, all good since.
