I know I can measure it when I get home, but I need some idle pondering for this afternoon! Old 'dale frame in the cellar, poss going to be turned into commuter since the inbred frame gave up the ghost...
it's pretty old (early 90's old i think). Bit of internetting seems to suggest they have always been 27.2 but I'm not so sure - I'm sure I tried a trial fit of a 27.2 post and it didn't fit...
My Caad4s had 27.2. The 2nd warranty replacement was a Caffeine and that was biggerer.
I had a 1994 CAAD2 M500 which was 27.2
From the FAQ (oringially posted 2006) on the MTBR Cannondale forums:
Cannondale measures:
- seatpost sizes - 27.2 mm
- seatclamp - 31.8 - 32 mm
- front derailleur clamp size - 31.82007 Caffeine (F29 for sure, other caffeines should be the same. Anyone?)
- seatpost sizes - 31.6mm
- seatclamp - 34.9mm
- front derailleur clamp size - 34.9mm (I am assuming its the same as the clamp)- BB width- 68mm
So I'd guess it probably is a 27.2
Though theres lots of info Here you might check out.
I.ve still got some bits like seatpost clamps (Salsa & Dale) front mech, bb cable guide, headshok stems if you need them to complete the build.

I have a M2000 in the loft - 1994 I think. That has a 27.2 seatpost. I also have a '93 lava dome up there too but that has a 27.0 post and is pretty much irrelevant to this thread!
1989 SM600, 27.2
1999 CAAD4 27.2
2003 CAAD5 27.2
my current 2002 CAAD3 27.2
There's a pattern there...
Caffeine's and beyond were 31.6 I think
