Wossit like?
Worth the push up from Manesty to drop down the other side if I was going in that direction anyway? I've read that the track up towards Skelgill is a good one, whats the bridleway like?

It's worth a bash. I stayed in Newlands at half term and ran it twice. It doesn't take long to get up from the Manesty side, pushing or carrying. The top third of the descent is a fast and broad grass, and the botton third is narrow singletrack then land rover track into Little Town. The middle bit has big chunky rocks and scree and is reasonably steep, but its probably do-able. I've tried it - but back in the day on a '93 Clockwork and didn't manage it...but then I'm a bit crap anyway. Give it a whirl!

Branch right high up for the best option - drops to part way along the Skelgill track.

It may be better from Skelgill to Manesty, but I'm planning on riding the Bash, then across to Buttermere, so heading west over Catbells.
cheers.

I rode it on a slightly extended Bash a few months ago from the Newlands side.
The top down to Manesty has got a few tight(ish) switch backs that have been pitched with local slate, was pretty slippy and fairly full on for the first descent of the day (possibly with a minor hangover). After those first few corners it opens up and its really good. 🙂

We had to go back over to Newlands at the end of the day, that's a fair old push back over. Don't bother going straight down through the old mine workings its all very quickly. As said above bear right and its pretty good and last a bit longer.

Edit which way back to Buttermere? Rigg Beck?

Yes, Rigg Beck/Sail Beck, then back up Liza Beck, Grisedale Pike, Hobcarton End.
I'll be starting the day with the Old Coach Road from Dockray. Big day planned!

How about going over Dale Head and down off Hindscarth?

its a possibility certainly.
As is Sticks Pass on the way back, rather than trudging back up the Old Coach Road.
