We were riding over Haughmond Hill over the weekend, we found a trail that starts near/opposite the Abbey Wood car park.

The trail runs close to the wire fence and on the edge of the quarry works, it then finishes at a view point.

Just wondering does it have a name? There also appeared to be a few other trails in and around the area...

Is that the one that climbs up from the gate? If so it's good in either direction, certainly my favorite trail within riding distance of home.

Go straight on when the path takes a sharp left by the fence and there's a bit more that leads to where the Castle once was (but tricky to get up, can be done though, better the other way)

Don't think any of the trails on Haughmond have names. Just explore, there's loads to find.

Kids should have been busy up there recently so there should be some nice new bermed/jumpy bits that lead off from nr the trig point (follow trail that heads off from the 'top' in a easterly direction).

Watch out for the gravel coated dog turds in the main car park.

Yes that's the one. We took that sharp left by the corner of the fence, but we did see the trail going straight on, it was a good trail and we did both directions.

The turds around the car park and picnic area was disgusting 🙁

But we will go back as I saw loads of little trails spurting off from the walking paths etc.

Rode there recently for the first time in several year since i moved from Shrewsbury. I was confused by that new walking trail over towards the quarry as i was looking for a cheeky trail which i'm not sure if its the one you mention. Did find one, but the one i was after starts after taking a right from the viewpoint?

As nick says, loads of trails down off the trig which take you to the singletrack along the length of the base of the hill

Yeah they put in the 'Geo Trail' a year or so ago when they let the quarry expand a bit and trashed the trail that ran along the edge of the quarry and eventually made it's way all the way around to the trail Mounty is on about. At the moment you have to go up to the view point to get to it.

I'm still missing the singletrack that used to run through the area they clear-felled about 3-4 years ago 🙁

ok,

My mrs lives in shrewsbury and I ride Haughmond a lot - we call it the ' rollercoaster ' - watch for deer in there....

There are good trails on the other side too. We have a dog and are equally appalled by the poo bags in trees too....

great woods

What's the dogging like, these days? Seem to have improved facilities.
