My wild enduros are worn out so it's new boots time.

Can run inserts or no insets as well

Was thinking DHF and maybe a hr2 or a DHR

Unless anyone suggests anything else...

No comments on finale but I’ve found the Assegai is better on the front than a dhf for me. On the weekend riding at Risca here we’re a couple of occasions where I probably didn’t commit to a tight / steep off piste turn as much as I should have done / as quickly as I should have done and expected the front to wash out from under me (dhf would have done). Assegai just stayed nailed and gripped perfectly. Really impressed with it - mine’s just an exo / 3c maxterra so it’s not even the burlier casing or proper soft compound either.

On the rear a dhr2 is always pretty decent. My maxterra one is wearing a lot quicker than previous dual compound ones. Currently in an exo casing one in 2.3” with a rimpact in it. If you’re going fast and rocky then probably get a DD casing on the rear.

Treads are debatable but strong casings are essential. Consider DH tyres.

I also wouldn't bother with a DHF. A pair of DHR's is preferable.

I’ve always had Magic Marys at Finale personably, seems to work well. Ultra soft front, soft at the back. Super gravity or DH casing a must (as mentioned above). When I’ve gone there it’s pretty much always been April.

Minions are a good choice.

Rim protect at the back. Minions are a great choice as are magic Marys. Conti Barons as an alternative? Be prepared for it to rain.

DHR2 front and rear is probably the most popular tyre there, including with the guides. Use something stronger like double down on the rear at least.

A MaxxGrip Assegai was the most impressive front tyre I have tried there. It's slightly skewed towards a drier trail, but is damn good.

Magic Mary is also a good option, but slightly skewed towards a wetter trail. It's not a perfect match for Finale most of the time, but it is versatile. I use it as a git and forget and haven't tried many other tyres in the front since then

I don't like DHF, but others do.

Personally I have poor reliability with Maxxis tyres, and prefer Michelin, Schwalbe and the new Continental tyres.

Rear Kryptotal with Enduro casing is good.

I find the Wild Enduro Pro grips and rolls well but wears a bit quicker.

Big Betty is good, my second favorite rear tyre.

My personal choice ATM is MM 2.6 front, super trail, and Kryptotal rear, 2.4, Enduro.

As it's a recommendation just for Finale, I would say Assegai front, Kryptotal rear is perfect.

Hey Dunc,
For Finale, you want a good all round tyre, as terrain is varied. Rocky, loose in places, loamy in others, not that dissimilar to Slovenia really, so what works for you there will do great in Finale.
For me that’s an Assegai MaxxGrip up front, and rear a DHR2 MaxxTerra with Rimpact Pro insert, if running a lighter casing.

How many people are only running inserts in the rear?

I bought a pair of Rimpacts after I destroyed 2 tyres in a month and they were both on the front.

I don't run inserts and will be running the same setup on the Enduro of Butcher Blck Dmnd as I always run when there. The Turbo Levo will be on Butcher Grid Gravity T9. Never had a problem with them in all the years we have been going

How much do you weigh and how fast do you ride?

I like to think I'm quick for my age. Average weight and run with 22 front 24 rear. My daughter has raced there a few times on the same combo without inserts. She is a bit heavier than me and quite a bit quicker.

I was tracking down a rattle in my old bike a couple of years ago, and dropped the rear insert then. It was about the same time I gave up with Maxxis tyres and strated religiously checking tyre pressures before every ride.

I'm 85kg, ride quick enough in a 'smasher' style, with pressure 21 psi front, 25 rear, on the setup listed above.

Magic Mary Front. Hans Dampf Rear (although one year i ran a Rock Razor). All in super gravity. No inserts. Touch wood, never had any tyre failures.

Generally 20 psi front, 25 rear.

Enjoy Finale, its mint.

Are you going to be pedalling much?

If not Wild Enduro Racing Line with maybe a DH22 on the back. Very impressed with them, but have been shifted to the ebike as they are pretty hard going to pedal.

Not sure what tyre choice would have made a difference when we rode down from the Nato base in this 😀

Bontrager G5 beats all comers IMO. Inexpensive too.

Sturdy
Grippy
Pedals surprisingly well.
Beats DHR2 upfront.

@tracey, we had a WEEK like that in May 2019. Toboggan was well named as we slid down from top to bottom. I never saw the view from the NATO base as it was 9 degrees and raining most days!

Whatever tyres I ran, all I can tell you is they were very muddy after each run!

For closure as I know you've all been sat perched on the edges of your seats

Assegai on the front, in max grip

Rear a HR2 wide tread with a DD casing and an insert....

So look out Finale for some top flight grade A mincing
